Night-time soundscape, rural Taiwan
2 am: Quiet. Only a few crickets chirp. No rain. After 3 days of rain, no rain.
5 am: Roosters. Their crow sounds half-hearted, though. Too early?
6 am: Dogs barking. A neighbour gets up and shouts at them. The barking dies.
6.15 am: The birds awaken. A cacaphony of many birds chirping.
6.40 am: A single vehicle drives by.
6.45 am: Hens and chicks cluck. Roosters and birds continue their throaty symphony.
7.00 am: Occasional staccato of a scooter, or dog. More birds. Fewer roosters.
7.10 am: Vehicles. A car horn gives two short blasts. A child's voice.
7.15 am: Traffic. Birds. The punctuated barking of dogs. The soundscape of today begins.
