Staring in abject horror, Atti can't help but wonder how this situation had even come to pass. His nieces and nephew were all cackling as they ran around the yard with water balloons, tossing them at anyone near them. Oliver was soaked, Olivia looked worse-for-wear, too, and his mom's hair was dripping as she lounged in a lawn chair. Glancing at Kaoruko, he let out a huff, "How are you the only one that's completely unscathed?"
Kaoruko glances up from her phone, looking around the yard with perfect indifference to the situation before turning back to her brother.
“Because of this.”
She holds up her phone - and just then, as a water balloon careens through the air and threatens to hit her, the screen flashes, and she disappears for a moment - just enough time for the water balloon to crash into Atticus instead.
When Kaoruko reappears, she’s still in the same position - and still dry.
She sits back again, and resumes playing on her phone, though she sneaks a few glances up every few seconds, just to check on the younger children.
