“RIDES WOLF'S BACK STABS IT TO DEATH,” Toronto Star. April 10, 1942. Page 38. ---- William Humphrey, Powassan bank clerk, killed a wolf by climbing on its back and stabbing it with a knife. He escaped this Tarzan-like stunt with nothing more than a pair of ripped trousers. Humphrey wounded the wolf with a rifle shot, then trailed it through the bush, but the wolf doubled back or its tracks, finally leaped from a rock to attack its pursuer. Man and wolf fell into a creek and threshed about for 15 minutes before Humphrey climbed on its back, seized it by the scruff of the neck and sank his knife into its heart.
