“… the inclusion of the illustrations from old illuminated manuscripts in this edition is truly what makes it my favorite.” Douxie waxed on to the elderly woman that stood beside him looking over the shelf of bestiaries in front of them. He looked over his shoulder as the bell above the shop door rang and a gangly teen stepped around the bookshelves at the front. He shot Douxie a nervous smile and wave before his eyes started flitting around the inside of the shop while he rocked back and forth on his heels. Most people that needed customer service at least browsed for a minute before they started bothering him with questions. Strange. His hands were in plain sight and the wards to redirect shop lifters still held strong from their refreshing last month, so that probably wasn’t it. “I think I’ll take this one.” The elderly woman pulled his attention back. “A good choice, is there anything else I can help you find or will that be all for today?” The boy continued to fidget as Douxie rang up the woman and subtly watched as she made her way from the shop. He could practically see the gears of his mind count out the seconds of how long it would take her to walk a safe distance away from the door. Douxie placed his elbows on the counter, placing his right hand on his wrist, and began watching the boy openly. Arbitrary time limit reached, a rather short fuse in Douxie’s opinion, the boy whirled around and froze as he saw the amused expression on Douxie’s face. “You’re not very subtle.” Douxie said slyly. The boy’s shoulders dropped but his smile was genuine even if his answering chuckle was sad. “I’ve never been good at subtle, I’m more of a charge in and do what needs done kind of guy. I need to be better about that.” The boy started to walk closer to the counter, he gripped the messenger bag strap across his chest like a life line. Douxie shifted his posture slightly in case he needed to move quickly. The boy clocked the movement and came to a halt half way across the shop, both knew the other was worried about an attack. “So what brings you charging in here…?” “Jim. I’m Jim Lake.” “Jim.” Douxie nodded curtly at him. Jim took a steadying breath as he seemed to compose his answer. “I traveled through time this morning, Doux. I’m from two years in the future. And you’re the only person I know of that wouldn’t think I’m crazy for saying that.” Douxie’s eyebrows disappeared into his hair as he stood up straight and reevaluated the earnest looking kid in front of him. A kid that apparently knew him well enough to call him Doux. First things first, gather the pertinent information. “Have you managed to avoid your doppelganger?” “This isn’t like the Heart of Avalon, I woke up in the body of my younger self.” Jim slowly stepped up to the counter and rested his hands on it. Douxie appreciated the gesture of openness as he reached below the counter for a notepad. It was obvious this conversation wasn’t going to be light. “Experienced time traveler, not sure if that’s comforting or terrifying.” The laugh that jerked out of Jim’s chest told him that the correct answer was terrifying. "Delightful."
In honor of the day a short bit from the fanfic that I started writing almost a year ago, before this I hadn't written fic since '08, so rott did inspire some good things. This is the first time I've posted any of this, I was worried about losing steam or wanting to change things I'd already written, but lately I'm starting to think I should just do it. Long stories take a long time to write, who knew?
Hi there! I recently read your story and I love it. If you don't mind, I do have a question about it that I hope isn't spoil territory.
Do you plan on any of the team getting their memories back?
The idea that inspired the whole story is the scene where a character regains their memories. It's still going to be a good while before that happens, it's not an easy fix, but the clues I've been working in are going to become a lot less subtle very soon.
(some readers spotted the big one last chapter, which is why I don't consider this a spoilery ask)
Hi there! Do you plan on having Angor Rot possibly redeeming himself in Atlas through the aftermath?
I mean, Jim wants to get a good grade in time travel fix-it, so he's going to try to save everyone he can.
And I have plans for Angor Rot *kicks heels in evil glee*
Hello! So when it comes to one of the trolls finding out about Jim being from an alternative future in Atlas through the aftermath, who will it be? An ally or enemy?
Jim's been trying to guard his secret closely, and it's a highly unlikely secret to have, so something pretty major would have to happen for someone that isn't close to him to collect enough clues to string it together.

Hi! If this isn't too big on spoiler territory, do Kanjigar and the past Trollhunter spirits remember Jim being the Trollhunter and not Toby?
Good question! I hadn't thought about it yet, so I'll probably leave it undecided until I start writing the relevant parts. But at this point I would say the ghosts do not actually remember Jim. But the ghosts can see out of the amulet and Merlin can see the future and communicate through the amulet, so they do know that in another life Jim was the Trollhunter after Kanjigar.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Zoe is an incredibly guarded person and only lets her defenses down around the handful of people she does trust (Douxie, Archie, Connie, and Hank), who she is very protective of.
The problem is that Jim has just burst into her life with a whole coterie of strangers that she’s supposed to get to know and learn to trust so they can all save the world together. She will be awkward, she will be prickly, she will be standoffish, she will feel bad for being hostile towards the people who are just earnestly trying to befriend her.
Unless they are Toby and Jim, because those two stumbled backwards into the perfect cheat code to start earning her trust. 1. Be chosen by the Amulet of Daylight (Douxie, her Douxie!, made that! He wouldn’t let Merlin give it to someone they couldn’t trust.) 2. Have a truth spell verified compendium from a time traveler of all the ways they just want to help. 3. Have absolute faith in her as they come to her for help while looking unfortunately hapless and like two kids who are in way over their heads (they are). 4. Leave Toby in her apartment for a day to be his genuine goofball self and have a gossip session where they lovingly roast Jim and Douxie.
*shows you my phone* it's spoilers without context for Atlas Through The Aftermath chapter 23.
