So proud of you!! Updates like these make me very excited for projects AND motivated to work on my own, so I definitely enjoy reading your posts!! ā„ SO HYPE FOR THIS Youāre writing your novel chronologically, correct? Can I ask, did the beggining feel easier to write than the later parts are?
I know the feeling of being motivated by friendsā moving on their projects!
And yes--I am writing it more or less mostly chronologically. I do have a fewĀ scenes here and there that areĀ āout of orderā from where I am in the narrative, but mostly this novel is aĀ āgrowingā novel rather than a super plotted one. Which surprises me about myself, tbqh. I only have a bare bones, broad strokes idea of things, so Iām allowing the ins and outs of the plot sort of unravel as I go. Iāll write something, and itāll flip a switch in my head of OH THATāS WHERE THATāS GOING or THATāS WHAT I MEANT TO REFERENCE IN CH3, etc.
Itās hard to say if the beginning was easier to write than now? I had absolutely no idea of the broader picture back then, because I originally intended for it to be... a short story... so I only hadĀ āMain Character goes and does Xā which then spooled out into a whole Thing, and now Iām in the entire second arc of a much bigger story.
If I were to solely go by how muchĀ at once/how often I was writing, the beginning went easier than now, as I wrote about 10k words in about a week. I was just following along on a relatively straightforward monster-hunting adventure then. Now, Iām delving into more difficult and deeper themes from the characterās background and starting to lay out the larger world and its plot, so itās more complicated to balance giving information without info-dumping andĀ without giving too much away, trying to not write myself into a corner etc.
But, a lot more dots are connecting now---there are also more dots just in general, so I can much more clearly see the larger picture of the story, its purpose, the main characterās drive (the surprise secondary characterās drive and part), the problem and how it needs to be resolved, the main characterās personal issues, and so on.
I definitely love the store moreĀ now than I originally did,Ā becauseĀ of knowing more about it and getting to delve deeper and deeper into characters, a world, and themesĀ that I love and that mean a lot to me.
