The#TheIllustratedMusicReview has to start with one of the top songs on my Spotify for the last two years in a row.
It's hard to explain why "Athoth a Go!! Go!!" by Machine Girl has been so entirely compelling to me. I've always described this song as something you'd hear in a dream and wake up to quickly forget. What strikes me most, and what in particular inspired this piece, is the chorus. (Coincidentally containing the only sung vocals on the entire album)
"You're the love I've always wanted. In the cold we can hold each other, 'til our brains and our guts splatter all over the f***ing sidewalk" It sends chills down my spine every time, finding something you've been searching for, only to lose it through horrific means. This captures the moment in between, and attempts to reflect the overwhelming chaos of Machine Girl's style, which could reasonably categorized as an auditory punch to the teeth.
Their album .... Because I'm Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For, should be on the list of Death Grips fans everywhere and any hardcore kids looking to expand their horizons.
