I adore louis and have loved him for a decade. The thing you said about his voice is so on point. During 1D his voice really stood out and he did so many notes. Now it's just bland. Honestly the cover sounded like a drunk person doing karaoke. The gp and other fandoms are absolutely dragging him on twitter and their arguments are kinda valid.
BBC live lounge was such a great opportunity. Harry has covers with more than 50M views, some of them are better than the original songs too. A great cover would have been 100 times more beneficial as promo than the pr bullshit they keep trying to push down our throats.
Like you said if he is disciplined and takes care of his voice he can achieve laurels. He has the most unique voice. He has that perfect rasp. Back to you was such a hit because of his voice. But he has genuinely stopped trying to look after it and it is clearly observable even to novices like us if we hear his one direction notes or his earlier work like back to you.
His lax attitude and indiscipline is visible not only in his voice but in his conduct too now. How he constantly claims he's not a gym guy, shit memory narrative that he plays on constantly. He's just dulling down his own career.
Oh, absolutely agree with this. I probably shouldn’t admit this lol, but my older brother is a huge Hozier fan and loves music in general, and I sent him a clip of Louis’s cover and he replied with, “How to ruin a cover by Louis Tomlinson.” Honestly, my first instinct with Louis is always to get defensive hahah, but in that moment I realized he was right. Like I’ve always said, Louis has a GREAT voice, majestic and incredible, and just recently I watched a One Direction concert video where they’re singing She’s Not Afraid, and Louis hits the most perfect notes when he sings the “oooooOOOOaO” part—I don’t know if you know which part I mean 🤣—but the man definitely has potential. it was incredible
But like he’s done his whole life, it’s very easy for him to drop discipline. (the kind of guy who breaks the rules and that crap). Everyone pretends it’s funny that he sometimes acts like a teenager, but it’s not—it’s a grown man, and at some point he needs to grow up and ask himself if he genuinely wants to grow as a solo artist and show how good he can be, or if he’s just going to stay in that complacency where no one can tell him he needs to be disciplined.
He definitely lost a huge opportunity to reach the general public. I hope in the future he stops smoking so much, starts doing vocal exercises, and matures a bit. Cuz I genuinely believe in him and I believe in his voice; he just needs to be professional :>
