Okay need help with out of sign aspects if possible. I understand that aspects are based off degress, but where I get confused is, for example, someone with Moon in Sagittarius at 0 degrees and Mars in Leo at 29 degress would have Moon square Mars, and I want know where the conflict is coming from, if that makes sense, as Sagittarius and Leo are extremely compatible yet the aspect between the two in that example is square. I understand how it works but I wanna know the why.
It has to do with the modalities as well as the “purity” of the degree. To use your example, a 29 degree Leo Mars would denote a a need for a partnership at home to shine. With a 0 degree Sagittarian moon, there is a combination of the subtle and mystical with the practical and mundane. So to simplify this, the earlier the degree of a sign, the more “pure” the sign is and conflict would come from the values that the signs’ modalities represent. Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are all fire signs and have a lot in common, but since they represent each of the three modalities, there are marked differences. In your example, Leo and Sagittarius, as fire signs, share a passionate, openhearted nature and aren’t intimidated by each other. However, Leo is a fixed sign and Sagittarius is a mutable sign, so where Leo would hold firm and stubbornly stick to what is held as true, Sagittarius is a more casual, experimental, go with the flow, freer energy. Fixity meshed with mutability causes a conflict of values, hence the tension of a square.
