The moment Thor had finally settled down after the snap, his thoughts drifted to his missing friends, wondering, hopeless, how many of them had perished, alone, without any idea of what was going on or why they were turning to dust. Why had Thor failed them all.
Why didn't Thor save them.
He thought his heart couldn't possibly break anymore but it did, twice, when he heard about Sif and Jane being dusted too. It should have been him, it was unfair, cruel and it hurt so much that for a moment he thought he was already dead himself. And he really wished he was.
He had stayed away from Jane with the sole purpose to spare her of situations like these and because he was inconstant, always coming and going.
He had vowed to protect her from the dangers of his world.
His very presence had put her in danger in the past, his very family had threatened her life. She had almost died because of him.
He was a walking disaster and the further she remained from him, the safer she'd be. She seemed to understand it when they parted ways.
But it didn't work: in the end, she was dusted like everybody else and all of his efforts were in vain.
He made of this his purpose to find a way to fix this, to bring them all back.
If there was a small chance, then he would cling to it with whatever small hope he had left.
It wasn't easy though. The battle against Thanos took some of his best friends' lives and many others, but they had everybody back.
It was unfair to celebrate life while so many had perished, so Thor had excused himself for some weeks, mostly to recover.
He was still healing when he started to travel the stars in search for lost asgardians, rescuing them and bringing them Home, including Sif.
His heart hurt whenever he thought about Jane, wondering if it was time to visit her or not, if she would understand.
Messaging Darcy, he found out she was back to her classes, the idea put a smile on his face.
Upon deciding he had to see her in person, Thor took stormbreaker and travelled to the University where she taught, studying the campus and finding the class she was about to enter, his heart wild in his chest.
He could only hope she'd recognize him, after all, he had changed a lot.
But he had to see her, to make sure she was safe and sound, so he sat in the back of the classroom and waited.
