I've been lucky enough to commission great artists recently on a few illustrations for my fics, with more to come.
Thanks to @4h13min for this amazing pair of pieces from Chapter 13, Karaoke Party, of "The Sicilians". One is of Donny singing "Eternity" (by Alex Warren) about the love he lost, and the other is of Betelgeuse singing "Ordinary" (also by Alex Warren) about the love he found. â€ïž I'm blown away.
And with two beautiful thematically related pieces, we've gotta have a diptych, right?
There are a lot of beautiful similarities and contrasts between these two and I hope you cherish them as much as I do. Enjoy and happy hauntings, my dears!

Thanks to the amazing @hesitant-killjoy for this delightful piece!
This is a fun scene from Chapter 9, Progress, of "A Haunted Amazon" where Donny (twin yet totally opposite brother of Betelgeuse) poses as a teen to crash Astrid's prom. Here's the moment:
Donnyâs grin grows and he enthusiastically takes Astrid's hand, pulling her to the dance floor. He finds a gap in the crowd and smoothly guides her arms into basic frame. When he starts dancing to this high energy song, with stylish spins and choreographed steps, Astridâs feet follow perfectly even though she has no idea what sheâs doing. Gaping at Donny, Astrid realizes how impossible this is and he can see the question on her face before she even asks it.
Grinning, he says in her mind, âYes, Iâm possessing your feet. Just a little.â

This is a fun scene from Chapter 33 of "The Sicilians" where Donny (as Astrid's service dog) chases Betelgeuse (transformed into a cat) up and down the walls in Winter River. Here's the moment:
...Lydia is playing with a chonky black and white cat that's running around chasing a laser pointer on the floor.
âI don't freakinâ get it!â Betelgeuse's voice floats from the cat. âI know it's just a stupid red dot, but I gotta catch it! Câmere, you sonofaââ
Wearing a massive smile, Lydia squeals as she points the laser beam up the wall. The chonky cat runs after it, defying gravity as he bounds higher and higher until he's on the ceiling.
Astridâs giggles draw Lydia's attention.
âHi, sweetie!â Lydia laughs.
âHey, kid!â BetelCat says, dilated eyes focused on the fast red circle as he gallops after it.
âIs that Beej?â Astrid asks.
âUh huh,â Lydia answers, still grinning wide.
Now Astridâs grinning, too. âAnd how's it going, Dad?â
âCan't talk! Your momâs makinâ me work my fluffy ass off!â
Giggling again, Astrid looks down at her canine companion, expecting him to be amused. But he's sitting stock still, his eyes also dilated and locked onto his feline sibling.
âDonny?â Astrid says.
His ear pivots towards her for a second, but he's still staring right at BetelCat. Finally, Donnyâs voice floats from his dog mouth.
âBetel.â
âYeah?â BetelCat says as he jumps and bats at his elusive glowing prey.
âYou're a cat.â
âNo shit, Sherlock.â
âI'm a dog.â
âYeah, so whaâŠâ The cat stops chasing the laser and his head snaps to the canine. âUh oh.â
DonnyDog takes off like a shot, bolting up the wall and onto the ceiling as BetelCat flees, yowling and hissing in his race down the opposite wall.
âWe haven't played tag since we were kids!â DonnyDog cries with pure joy.
âThis is not tag!â BetelCat yells. âI'm tryinâ not to get eaten!â
âI wouldn't eat you! Just shake you violently back and forth until your skin rips off!â
âHOW IS THAT BETTER?!â
âItâs instinct!â
âLYDIAAAA!â Betelgeuse yowls and leaps into her arms.

Many thanks to Yayi on X for this adorable work. Yayi is doing commission work for donations to two organizations (Yummy and Caritas Venezuela) that are supporting recovery efforts in the aftermath of the devastating June 24 earthquakes.
It's of a moment in Chapter 33, Back to School, of "The Sicilians" where Donny turns into a German Shepherd to keep Astrid from having nightmares. Here's the scene:
As Lydia falls back asleep to the sound of her soft husband purring, next door, Astrid and Donny dream together the rest of the night. And though DonnyDog starts at Astrid's feet, it doesn't last. When she turns in her sleep, eventually he stretches out enough that she unconsciously seeks out her canine companion and pulls him up into her arms.
Here's the version with Yayi's watermark, with more places you can find them online.

Chapter 12, Junior year, of "A Haunted Amazon" is up!
Thanks for your patience while this chapter came together. Progress on Richard's mystery continues, Emilia starts teaching Lydia and Astrid necromancy, and Astrid has a very close call in the Hamazon.
Chapter 8, Context, of "A Haunted Amazon" is now up!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Poor Astrid gets stuck in the middle of a family fight this chapter as Richard learns a lesson the hard way. Lots of good quotes, but my favorite might be:
Richardâs forehead wrinkles as he scans the tableâs occupants, settling on Betelgeuse. âYou have family meetings?â
The Ghost with the Most scoffs. âDonât sound so shocked, Filet-O-Fish. We donât look like the Brady Bunch, but we function just fine, thanks.â
âYouâre more like the Munsters,â Richard quips back. âAnd thatâs not a compliment.â
Betelgeuse scowls. âI swear to God if you drag Herman and Lily Munsterââ
âBeej,â Lydia interrupts.
Angrily crossing his arms, Betelgeuse grumbles a cranky âHmph!â and slouches in his chair.
