Ā Holy shit. Jaz actually pinched the corners of her eyes as Spinda was speaking to stop herself from crying, looking up at the male just as he finished speaking.
"You donāt⦠you donāt need to apologise. For not, ah⦠āhaving it roughā. Really, justā¦"
She didnāt know where she was going with that sentence, so Jaz trailed off there. A laugh was heard from the girl, though it was weary and had no humour fuelling it.
"I⦠I guess I just g-gotta do what I always do⦠investigate in preparation for t-trial later⦠especially withā¦" She gestured with her hand in a way as though to indicate the whole scene. "Fuck, Iām so⦠tired of this⦠what is this? Seventh case? Eighth victim? I donāt even know anymoreā¦"
Another pinch of the eyes; another hollow sounding laugh accompanied by that weary smile.
"T-Thank you, though, I⦠really do appariciate your w-words⦠w-what are you going to do now? You say you pretend this all isnāt happening⦠thatās a lovely belief to have, haha⦠do you investigate at all? I⦠Iām gonna look around after thisā¦"
Spinda couldn't help but flinch at the hollow laughter coming from the girl. That was exactly why he pretended because he couldn't deal with being so....Ā broken. That was his way of coping with all the shit.
He immediately reached out to wrap an arm around Jaz for a brief moment before he quickly pulled away, giving his own tired smile right on back.
"Pretendin' ain't fun. I can tell ya that much. I'm too much of a chicken to be 'real.' Plus, I don't want to, like, fuckin' lose. Isn't this what that... er...Ā mastermind, or whatever ya call 'em, wants? Anyway, I'll let ya get to ya investigatin'. Good luck, Jaz."
