1: so it's revealed in canto 8 that his name isnt really hong lu (jia baoyu but we knew this) and he says when faust recruits him "Hong Lu. I want to be Hong Lu." now this is cool as i interpreted it as him finally doing something of his OWN will and not "surrendering" to what others want of him. now my question is why Hong Lu?? why that in particular. as far as i can tell theres no explanation as to why he chooses Hong Lu in specific, not even a mention to its meaning. i ask what your thoughts are

Considering how early in the timeline that happens, I doubt the meaning of the name is that uplifting. Yes, he chose the name himself, but he also refused to name any wish of his own. My own theory is that it's him putting into words what he feels like he is. Hong(yuan)'s Jade. Hong Lu.

First of all if you're worried about misinterpreting him that already means you're better off than some of the people I've seen. The kinds of people I've observed are so up their own asses that any interpretation that differs from their own makes them absolutely lose their shit. The fact that you're open to different interpretations and potentially being wrong already shows you're not one of those people.
