As I have mentioned before, Scales and Keys can be calculated using three simple number rules - based on the Circle of Fifths, etc. My teacher taught me to use this method at the beginning of my Grade Four Music Exam, taking a few minutes preparation time to write out all the Keys and Key Signatures. Then I had everything I needed to hand to answer all the questions on Keys and Tonic Triads, and didn’t have to rely on memory. Now that I have been refreshing myself on Music Theory, it isn’t enough to be able to just answer a test paper. I want to HEAR the scales and how they work, experience the differences between Harmonic and Melodic Minor scales. So I have been enjoying using the keyboard in GarageBand to go over all the keys.
