The dances of Assam beautifully reflect the state’s rich cultural heritage, diverse communities, agricultural traditions, and deep connection with nature. The Bagurumba Dance of the Bodo community is another well-known traditional dance of Assam. Similarly, the Jhumur Dance is popular among Assam’s tea garden communities and is performed during festivals and social gatherings with rhythmic group formations.
Other notable folk dances of Assam include Deodhani Dance, Bhortal Dance, Ali Ai Ligang Dance, Gumrag Dance, Ojapali, and various tribal dance traditions. Each form carries its own history, purpose, costume style, musical rhythm, and community significance.
