Love this ask lol. From what I remember it was a running joke back when Gabe P. first got called up to the The Rangers that auto-correct kept changing the spelling of his name to Gay Parole in people’s phones.

There was also a tweet about someone posting in the Penguins LB tag back in March that brought it back to life & it seems like it just really stuck lol.

I unfortunately don’t know who the actual first poster was/ if there was one specific post that started it all but whoever they are… fly high diva🕊️

& welcome to the Shark tank!🫶 Oddly enough I don’t think there’s actually like 1 set name? I see “Sharkies” used pretty often but in my brain I automatically associate that with what Cat T. calls the baby Sharks so I don’t really use it tbh. (Lots of people do though!)

The PWHL team will (for the most part) operate separately from the SJ Sharks but they will share their training facilities/ play at the SAP center.

NHL teams/ franchises are privately owned & operate pretty independently of each other. This means they have a good deal of agency over their choices/ way they run their orgs.

On the flip side- the PWHL (all 12 teams) are currently owned by one entity- the Mark Walter Group.

The SJ PWHL team is not managed by big money Mike & has its own GM who was hired directly by the MW team.

Forgive me if this is a horrendous metaphor but the best thing I can think of is kind of like a fraternity/ sorority from the same uni. They’ll likely be similar in terms of how they operate but will do their own thing/ make their own names for themselves.
