Today Is World Mental Health Day & World Suicide Prevention Day - an annual awareness event established to raise awareness about suicide across the globe and working together to prevent it. • Life affects us all differently. We all go through difficult times, and negative emotions can be a healthy reaction to the challenges we face. However, for many of us, things can become more serious, and each year as many as 1 in 4 of us experiences a mental health problem. • More so during these difficult and uncertain times. In one way or another, most folks (including teens and our young ones) mental health is being affected by Covid19 - Overwhelming Fear, grief, isolation, financial worries, anxiety, and stress are to name a few. • Being aware of what can affect our mental health can make it easier to understand when we, or someone we care about, are struggling. Mental health awareness helps us think about what we can do to improve things or where we can get help and support for ourselves and others. • The ‘ASK TWICE’ Rule May Also Help A Mate or Colleague Who Is Struggling. • When I ask a client or friend who is sitting in my chair if they are OK? They will mostly reply with, “Yes, I’m fine thank you.” • However, I can usually sense when someone is Not OK. World Mental Health Day is October 10th. We currently live in a world where men are told to “man up”. Then, when manning up is sadly too much for them and they take their own life, we talk about how they should have spoken to us, how it’s okay to not be okay and how they could have asked for help. We live in a world where people make attempts on their own lives and are accused of attention seeking if they survive. Maybe if they got the attention that they needed, they wouldn’t be trying to end their suffering. Mental wellness, although it cannot always be seen, is no less real than any other illness. Help us to change the world. Help us to change the #stigma. Be the person that can be asked for help. Be the person to pay attention when and where it is needed.
