Set!Tale began as a usual timeline. However the human reset in the middle of their route and decided to return to attempt a genocide route. The human only managed to fight Sans once before deciding once more to begin from the beginning.
Despite this they killed every monster they could find, that they could sink their toy knife into. Once again they faced Sans, except only this time, they refused to reset. Their soul remained shattered in front of Sans. He chose to carefully gather the shards and piece them together, quietly begging them to make a better choice when they reset again. Much to his surprise, as he pieced the soul together it began to absorb itself into his hands. The human soul fused with him.
Sans decided that with his newfound self, a monster with a human soul within him, he would open the barrier to free himself and whoever remained in the underground. He sought to potentially open an opportunity of a better life to the last remaining monsters, to future monsters.
However he carried one truth with him as he left the underground.
" Whatever I do now will never bring them back... "
