what do you think is the cause for murdoc’s dislike for 2d? I think its a culmination of several things (general psychology of bullying coming from a place of being irritable and needing a punching bag for other issues, unrelated to their target of harassment, murdoc acting like how he and his brother would be towards each other, so acting that way to 2d and not realizing the scope of its affects, murdoc being an assertive person, so using his influence on the most easily influenced person around, jealousy, ableism and annoyance at 2d’s undiagnosed traits, dissatisfaction, resentment for not wanting them around but needing them as the face and voice of the band)
these are just some of my thoughts, i know in later phases their relationship has gotten better, but murdoc obviously doesn’t respect 2d that much and would forget he left them in a hot car. I want to know other people’s opinion on this.
this isn’t a shipping thing for me, i dont care about that, and I say all this with love for murdoc as my favorite band member, with awareness about his cringe traits
I think you hit the nail on the head with a lot of the things you already said. I Also believe some other reasons behind it are, one, obviously, the abuse he himself experienced throughout his childhood and formative years. Not just from his peers but especially from his father. Theres also the point of view that he's incredibly envious of 2D. I always viewed his relationship in earlier phases with 2D to mirror Murdocs relationship with his father in certain aspects. He constantly feels the need to flex the imbalanced power dynamic between them, constantly telling 2D he owes him because he takes care of him, etc. I don't think all of it was entirely just like it was with his father, but there's a lot of things that I feel like they click.
It's honestly a load of different things when you really sit down to look at it. One implication can lead to another and it all just keeps unraveling. Murdoc himself has a ton of issues in general, but I feel like "issues" is a major understatement. And those issues definitely don't end when it comes to the other band members, 2D especially. But that's one of the things that makes him an incredibly interesting character to me. He's trying with everything he has to make everyone believe he's this one dimensional comically evil person. He acts like childhood and past doesn't affect him, or that it does but he doesn't care, when in reality, Murdoc is a character who cares a LOT. To his own detriment unfortunately.

baby murdoc would probably sound like Sumo from the clarence cartoon, except with a stokie accent. Made this discovery a while ago, realizing that murdoc’s voice sounded very much like tom kenney in the early early days of phase 1, tom kenney being Sumo’s voice actor. Both characters even laugh the same its awesome.

Hey mate! Why is Murdoc your favourite Gorillaz character? Alternatively if you’d prefer why is 2D your least favourite🤔 (I’ve seen you say you don’t like 2D very much so I’m curious)
I honestly think Murdoc chose ME because the way my brain switched after seeing him in the Cracker Island Music Video for the first time altered my mind in a paranormal and unexplainable way. That being said, I really liked the general grime and grit to him. My first introduction to him (if you dont count when I watched the Feel Good Inc. MV years ago.) was Cracker Island and Silent Running, so I had it in my head that he was this like... Comically goofy antagonist? And then I had complete whiplash as I looked into earlier phases and saw he was straight up evil at times. HOWEVER! I was also caught off guard again because there's actual depth as to WHY he's like that. He's just incredibly interesting to me, and I love characters I can dissect under a microscope. He's also insanely hot to me. And fum to draw. You can't go wrong with that.
As for 2D I don't mind him at all. Whenever I act like I dislike him, it's mostly a bit because haha Murdoc fan dislikes him duhhh. I will admit that I do find him annoying at times, in any phase tbh. But that's about it
I take part of that last ask back, we're past melting. I'm evaporating. Truly. I'm mere particles floating around my room please don't send a vacuum because I will be gone, sucked up
