So I’m going to answer this in three parts.
1). Are you referring to my not being covered in tattoos? Not having a full head of awesome unnatural hair colour? My lack of facial piercings? I am a busy young adult with a full-time job that does not allow any of these. I am already the employee that stretches the rules on appearance, I don’t have the money to ignore them and get fired. I am trying to live on my own, and I have nowhere to move into if I fail in that. As much as I would love to have the monetary ability to be able to throw caution to the wind and go all out I can’t. I need to be able to keep my job, which means maintaining at least 60% visual normal hair colour (already stretched from 100% in a deal with my supervisor but contested by higher ups), no visible piercings, and no visible tattoos (also stretched by having 1 ½ of my tattoos visible in my uniform). I am not an alternative model, nor and I financially aided, I cannot have the look I would love currently.
2). You saying I need to fit some sort of look is the same as my employers, just a different name. They want me to look “normal” and conventionally “pretty” (unfortunately they’ve even said that’s a big part of being employed there, is being attractive). Embrace the chaos of being unable to label.
3). I am not in any way trying to please you. Everything I do with the appearance of my body is for me, to make me feel more like myself. I’m stretching myself as far as I can with the things that I love within the box I am forced into in order to afford food and shelter. And I am looking forward to being able to be covered in art, and until then I am going to love the progress I’ve made so far.
