A character in the "Rise of Legends" Pathfinder campaign.
A Demacian "Sword Saint" Ryia's skill with the blade is matched only by her willingness to protect the people she cares about.
From a young age Ryia had a fascination with swordplay, when she came of age to join the Demacian military she jumped at the chance and soon began to hone her techniques.
She spent years training but found that the military simply wasn't for her, it didn't mesh with her own style of fighting. Bidding her mother, father and younger brother goodbye she began traveling. She spent some time in Ionia learning from the samurai there. They're skill was like nothing she had ever seen before and she soon found her skill with the blade increasing. After years of training, blending the samurai's style and her own into one she returned home, ready to greet her family as a capable young woman.
However her return home turned grim as she discovered that both her parents had died in the time that she was gone.
Her father died of a heart attack, brought on by a rare blood disease and her mother, overcome with grief at the loss of her husband took her own life.
Worse yet, her younger brother Damien was missing.
Finally, the other noble houses expected Ryia to pick up where her father had left off, managing the trade between city-states. Something she had no interest in doing.
So she left Demacia and began traveling as a mercenary, trying to help people as best she can. Hoping to one day be reunited with her brother.
By chance, in Noxus she met with a group of capable people who were doing work similar to her own. She joined up with them on their adventures along with Rance Blackblade who joined at the same time. Together they've been traveling around Valoran righting wrongs, helping people and protecting the land. She's become very close friends with the party's Ionian cleric, Sarah Yakamura.
She's recently started thinking about one day trying to become a champion when she thinks herself strong enough.
