I literally just got home from the hospital like an hour ago and the first thing I wanted to do was post @hallokatzchen 's official character artwork for Javaan!
I'm currently in a lot of pain, but when it settles down I would like to color this and add it to his article. Thank you so much Hallo, you always nail these characters perfectly! His armor is badass, and the CURVED MACHETES! I love it!

I really hate to be the person to ask this, but after reading all of Javaans lore I can't resist.
Do Male Centaurs have penetrative sex with other species? And vice versa for Female Centaurs?
Don't worry, this actually isn't the first time I've gotten this question!
The short answer is: it depends on the people involved. The following text may be NSFW, so I'm placing it below a cut...
In most cases, both male and female centaurs can comfortably have penetrative sex with other heavyweight species (ogres, minotaurs, and trolls). In some cases, roshava, cecaelia, and feral satyrs can be penetrated by a centaur too. More rarely, smaller species like humans and dworfs can accommodate them without injury. This is highly dependent on the size and "experience" of all people involved.
Centaurs usually opt for different kinds of sex when they're partnered with smaller species. What they do is limited only by their creativity!
The most obvious danger is that a male centaur would be too big for his partner and hurt them. But female centaurs face a similar problem: their vaginal muscles are so strong that one good flex can potentially injure someone. Other heavyweight species can bear this, but middle and lightweight species cannot.
In one story, Dr. Che considered using his fist to penetrate his centaur wife Philippa, but realized she might break his arm. He does penetrate her with his penis later, but it's not large enough to reach those stronger muscles in the vagina.
I mention this because when smaller species hook up with female centaurs, the first idea that usually pops into their head is "I know! I'll just use my arm!"
It's a real problem, and many hospitals on Looming Gaia have the records to prove it...Not to mention all the cases of centaurs getting too "excited" and accidentally kicking/crushing their smaller partners. It's a bit of a meme at this point.
In Javaan's case, I think he's experienced enough to know what's safe and what's not. I'm sure he has a few embarrassing blunders behind him, but he always learns from his mistakes.
In "The Confession", he did manage to have sex with two satyrs without hurting either of them, so he must know what he's doing!
AFAIK we never got to see the Steel knuckle squad as kids. What were they like when they were little?
That's true! Their origin stories all began a bit later in their lives, so we didn't get to look into their childhoods the way we did with most of the other FGG.
I do have an illustration of a young Javaan and his mother here, but no artwork of the other SKS guys as kids yet.
Linde was a typical snotty rich girl, with one key difference...she didn't have a lot of friends. She was actually quite lonely, since her parents sent her to private school and forbade her from going out very much. They were worried about her safety due to her albinism, as people in their region are very superstitious and have ignorant beliefs about albino people.
As a child, Linde spent too much time alone, consuming media that made her feel bad about herself. She was terribly self-critical and insecure from a young age. When I imagine Linde as a child, I see an agitated, demanding, and unpleasant little girl. Despite her family's wealth, I don't think she was very happy back then.
As for Balthazaar, he claims he had a normal, happy childhood. Though he lived in a crowded house and his family was far from rich, they all loved and supported eachother. I think Balthazaar's biggest problem in his youth was his impulsivity. He was bad-tempered and quick to throw punches, and ultimately this got him into huge trouble as an adult. I think Balthazaar's parents were stretched thin with their jobs and too many kids, so maybe Balthazaar didn't get as much attention as he needed. He meant well, but he was kind of a troublemaker.
Skel speaks fondly of his life with the Barhatian royal family. Though he was technically a slave, the family never treated him like one. Instead, the king and queen treated him like one of their own children. He lived a charmed life, or so he thought. Maybe he was a little spoiled, but overall he was a happy and carefree boy...very much a contrast to the bitter, neurotic man he grew up to be! In his youth he was known for being sweet, mischievious, and romantic. It's a shame that life beat these qualities out of him later on.
I don't think Javaan ever really got to be a kid. From the day he was born, he learned that the world was harsh and unfair, and there was no time for games. His mother taught him empathy. She told him that a loveless, degenerate existence is not worth surviving for; It's love that makes life worth living. Javaan really took that to heart, so even in his most desperate moments, he tried to show mercy and kindness to others. I imagine Javaan was a good-hearted boy who was forced to commit bad behaviors by his circumstances, but ultimately that's what motivated him to seek a better life as an adult.
How do centaurs feel about being ridden? How taboo is it to ask a centaur for a ride and how badly would it end if someone hopped on their back to ride them without their consent?
Well...let me put it this way: how would you feel if someone jumped on your back without permission and tried to ride you around like a horsie? Chances are, you'd be pretty fucking annoyed, and that's exactly how centaurs feel about it.
They generally don't like being ridden because they see it as demeaning. Centaurs are already enslaved as beasts of burden in many parts of the world, and even in places where they're free, they face all kinds of derogatory comments and discrimination based on their horse-butts. So, they really prefer not to be treated like animals in any way, shape, or form.
Asking a centaur if you can ride on their back is considered extremely rude because you're implying that they're some kind of animal. In some jurisdictions, it may even be considered hate speech. Jumping on their back without permission is considered assault, just like if they were any other species.
There are exceptions to the rule, of course. Javaan likes giving his friends a lift on his back, and goes as far as to wear a saddle for them. He uses it as an opportunity to brag about how strong and fast and useful he is. He also realized that he's more effective in battle with a weapon-wielding jockey on his back. He doesn't care about a little thing like "dignity". For him, life is all about practicality.
If Elska & Javaan (Somehow) became magical during their infancy, what spells would they use? I like to imagine Elska wielding the Stone Age version of Halo’s gravity hammer!
Javaan would be learning spells to raise his status in the world, probably through sneaky or underhanded means. Invisibility, umbramancy, seduction spells, etc. He never got the opportunity to learn these things as a poor orphan, and now as an adult his attention span is too short to begin. Even if he seriously locked in, he's too old to get very far with it at this point anyway. Learning new spells takes years, and mastering them takes decades.
I can't really see Elska mastering spells themselves because her brain just doesn't work like that; spellcrafting and casting requires a lot of complex and abstract thinking. Elska is a very straightforward thinker. So, she would use enchanted weaponry instead. Not just anyone can wield an enchanted weapon, it takes a special set of skills and finesse that I believe Elska could master if she wanted to.
I don't know what a gravity hammer is, but it sounds like something she'd be into!

In "Love Poison", we learn that Javaan apparently has some carpentry skills, despite having no history in construction work and never owning a house.
It's possible that he just developed these skills on his own by taking odd jobs throughout his life, but I like to think that he actually spent some time apprenticing under Olof. Nothing formal, just some lessons here and there while they shared a few drinks. Shooting the shit as they rebuild the Hollow together after the fire (because god knows that was an all-hands-on-deck ordeal...)
I don't think Javaan and Olof have interacted much--if at all--in the series. But I imagine they're actually pretty good bros behind the scenes. They're the only two adult male centaurs in the village, so I think they'd have a lot to talk about despite hailing from very different cultures.
Check out this byoooootiful new character art of Javaan by @hallokatzchen ! Hallo really did his good looks justice! He looks like a total badass and I'm loving it!
Is Ranger gay? Also what does Javaan think of his son crossdressing?
Yes, I imagine Ranger is probably gay. Javaan doesn't care about his sexuality or the way he dresses though. The thing that concerns him is Ranger's gentle, soft-spoken, and artsy nature.
Javaan knows how scary the world can be, and he worries that Ranger isn't tough enough to stand on his own. Ranger has gotten by purely on his good looks and dancing skills, but this "sugar baby" lifestyle can't last forever. One day his youth and looks will fade, and Javaan fears that Ranger won't have any skills to fall back on when that happens.
Javaan's only concern with the crossdressing is that people may look at Ranger's frilly clothes and assume he's an easy target to rob or something. At one point he does try to convince Ranger to dress in a more masculine, rugged fashion, but Ranger just isn't comfortable with that.
He wants to prove to his dad that he can be pretty and tough at the same time.
