The long pole he picked up on the way is shoved through one of the holes in the fence, into a walker’s head, and he squints as he watches it fall over. It seemed like as soon as you got one, another popped up. He hated doing this, but he needed to be close to someone. Didn’t trust himself to be alone. Maybe he was seeking comfort. “You been out here a while?”

james didn’t like to play games. he never had a pension for them - and he liked to think this mission was a giant fucking game he was given to waste his time.
why he’d been put on the path to track down loki laufeyson was still an unclear question he’d no doubt not have answered anytime soon, but the last time the two had intermingled, well... it was safe to say had not been a pleasant experience. however, he had a theory, and that theory was that if loki knew they were being sought out, then perhaps they’d reveal themself and make his search that much easier.
truly he didn’t argue with his assignments at the best of times, but as bucky swirls a packet of sweetener into his steaming cup of styrofoam glory outside some dimly lit diner, there’s a part of him that thinks maybe he should’ve. the coffee is bitter even with the added sugar and he blanches a tad when the aftertaste of the burnt beans hits his tongue.
