So this is a character I have thought a lot about. I mean, yes, everyone thinks a lot about the character they write. But I have fanfiction with this character (and James of course) in my very first writer’s journal. I had that when I was like, eight or nine (it was a yellow composition notebook. I called it my cheese journal.). I remember roleplaying on Neopets. I’ve just always been enamored with these characters, and I think it came from my stemming of enjoying the ‘villains’ of a show. I still remember vaguely going to Blockbuster and getting the vhs for the collection with Holy Matrimony on it (I also remember watching the episode with the Ponyta and the race... I was a pony-obsessed child, okay? Still am!).
Writing her now, as lame as it sounds, is kinda like revisiting this old friend who’s been in my life for a long time. And now that I’m about her age, I think it’s easy to tap into some of the cardinal instincts a woman might have. And I know the parts of her that I admire, and by writing them I can hack into how I can apply the same characteristics in my own life. It’s interesting too, because I’ve seen this character shift in my mind. When I was a kid, I wasn’t as enamored. But now, as an adult, dealing with some people who I’d like to punt myself, I’m like “I understand.”
