How Did You Become an Archivist?
It’s #AskAnArchivistDay 2016, so we wanted to answer a few questions we’ve received from Twitter!
Question: Â How did you become an Archivist?
Answer from Emily, Director of Research and Educational Outreach: Â
I became an Archivist through a successful internship opportunity that I was offered in graduate school.  My initial plans were to complete my master’s degree in history and become a teacher.  Through my internship, I learned about the important role archivists play in preserving and making primary record material available to the public.  Without dedicated archivists, much community history would be lost to time.  Today, thanks to the internship introducing me to the field and providing outstanding professional development, I am able to combine teaching and the preservation of public history for the next generation of archivists by managing the internship and educational outreach programming at the Maryland State Archives.  For more informaiton on our educational programs including internships, please see:  http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/homepage/html/teachers.html
