Have you heard of the 'grandma' of women's gymnastics/ my personal icon, Oksana Chusovitina? She's been competing longer than most of her competitors have been alive, and her son is older than many of them, too. I just,, think she's neat.
Ok so I just googled her and like?? What a badass??? Like?? I didn't do a lot of digging, but I did find some pretty wild things, including but not limited to:
In 2016 she became the first gymnast to compete in seven consecutive Olympics games
This women won a total of 9 world metals for vault, some of which she won after she tore two of her Achilles tendons
She has five International Gymnastics Code of Points skills named after her
She had her debute in 1992 when she was 17, and had been planning to attend the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (which would have been her eighth and final time competing)
She would have been 45 for the 2020 Olympics when most people retire in their 20s
Anon thank you for enlightening me today this women is an absolute icon
