I think in most lobotomy cases even when the patient gets “better” they typically get much worse later on. Azula’s cognitive functions could decline even more rapidly, she could get epileptic, incontinence or even severe dementia. Then that would just open a well of guilt in zuko, not only is his sister not truly healed or happy she’s nothing like she used to be and never will be again. Though maybe that’s more angsty darkgrim territory than just dark? My apologises for the rambling i just really loved your writing about this scenario, it’s very in character (in my opinion) for zuko to misguidedly trust someone he shouldn’t and hurt people in ignorance.
