#ask: xia

FIRST FACT IS Xia is nonbinary so you guys will primarily see them going by they/them in comic. I day primarily because they really don't correct anyone that use other pronouns for them because they really don't care much. They are more focused on keeping the peace.

Xia is also one of the few Beanstalked characters who doesn't have a specific fairy tale they are Bookmarked with and are instead Bookmarked with a stock figure: A Knight in Shining Armor.

They are very lighthearted in nature, often cracking jokes when people expect them to be the most serious person in the room due to being Briar Patch's protector. They have the energy of "Professional who is winging everything they are doing and making it 100% of the time"

I think a fun fact a lot of people might be surprised by, because I never bring it up since it's a more recent development when I rewrote Beanstalked, is that Xia is actually a close friend of Nana's.

They are the only person she has any patience for in the village prior to Jack showing up because Xia is very adaptable by nature, so they have an easier time reading and interacting with Nana compared to her more rocky experiences with other Briar Patch residents.

Xia is also a big role model for Jack as he wants to learn how to use his Märchen just as well as Xia so he can help others.

1. Do they prank those unaware with their popping (sorry i forgot the term and trying to be clever) eye?

2. Has anyone challenged them to an arm wrestling match?

1. Xia typically waits to feel someone out before they pull their little eye popper trick since they don't want to scare anyone too badly. They wanna prank folks, not traumatize them.

Sometimes they'll flat out just tell someone they have a fake eye before they take it out to show.

2. Aaand it's mostly people outside of Briar Patch who'd dare to challenge them to an arm wrestling match. 100% of the time it's men who view Xia as being all talk and no show. And 100% of the time, said men lose. Almost everyone from Briar Patch is well aware they'd lose in an arm wrestling match against Xia so they don't challenge them.

Welp, that was before I completely restarted and rewrote Beanstalked. Back then I did plan on them being a thing but with the way the write has gone now - I honestly have no idea.

I'll see how things play out as I write them because sometimes OCs just create their own story paths in my head.

A vast majority of Bookmarked roles are predetermined the second they come into existence.

Romulus has been through a lot and is hardened from his past experience while Xia has been through a lot and has a determination to help others,

They also are the caretakers of their group, Romulus with Remus and some of the defectors of the villain group in Beanstalked and Xia with basically all of Briar Patch,

So they have a lot of responsibility as the older sibling figures which mean they don't really need the other but they enjoy the other's presence because they can relate to the stress and understanding. Plus, their differing perspectives on life is interesting in the sense of how they interact as they can disagree on certain things but still understand and sometimes come to unlearn certain stuff.
