Hello, Scully! I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on how to write a first person story well? I’m working on my first romance, dystopian story on wattpad, but it’s been difficult to get detailed with my descriptions and not use repetitive filter words. I also find myself writing way too much internal dialogue. I want to write in a deeper pov style or just a simple (showing rather than telling) type, but I’m even sure where to start. Btw, I love your clouis works! It’s inspired me so much! I miss that story you were writing with Dee too. Sucks it probably won’t get finished.
I’m flattered you’d come and ask me :’)
Let me start off by saying…..I suck at first person pov writing. I’M SORRY I JUST DO. Granted it could be because I just haven’t done it enough to get any stronger at it, but my attempts have always left me feeling a bit rigid. BUT NEVERTHELESS I will still leave you with a few pointers that I have learned over the years, things I currently utilise to help me and hopefully they will still be applicable for you :) Thank u for the kindness
READ OTHER WORKS
This is probably my biggest tip when it comes to writing. Whether it’s published, physical works or your fav fanfic author, read what inspires YOU and STUDY IT. Let me be clear, I'm not saying copy that story beat for beat, we never condone plagiarism. But consuming the stories you want to be able to create can be a great starting off point. You’re struggling with filler words? Reading other stories is a useful way to learn new words, or learn how certain words can be used in different prose.
KEEP PRACTISING
It sounds a bit of an obvious answer, but you truly just have to keep writing and keep editing. You can always edit a weak draft, you can’t edit something when it’s not even there. The amount of times I’ve read over a draft and gone “hang on….this doesn’t make sense” and took the time to adjust accordingly. Maybe you’ve noticed you’ve used a certain word one too many times and it reads a little stiff and repetitive, cool! Now you can fix it (a thesaurus is a wonderful tool for that specific example)
PLEASE don’t be afraid of the word ‘said’, but don’t let it become a crutch
I’m a human being, so about 80% of the time I’m just saying shit with no applicable emotion to it. It’s okay for a sentence to end with “he/she said”. However, that other 20% of the time I’m talking? I’m going to be speaking with emotion. “Said” is a crutch when followed by an adverb. “He/she said sadly”. This might be a personal preference for me, but a good case of showing instead of telling focuses on the physical. You got a sad character? Before they speak their eyes well up with tears, hands balled in fists by their sides. Consider physical indicators of emotion and utilise that to show rather than tell. Readers are smart, they’ll pick up on the emotional indicators. If you feel you’re writing too much internal dialogue, use that physical indicator instead. For example, Character A is having some internal dialogue at Character B because they are currently annoyed with them. Again, readers are smart and we don’t need to hold their hand. SHOW THEM THE ANNOYANCE. When Character B enters the room, Character A stays silent and rolls their eyes. They take a couple steps back, withdrawing into themselves. That will also speak of their feelings without needing that internal dialogue.
This also can tie into descriptions of places or objects; when looking to describe a place consider your own senses. What would you smell? See? Hear? Touch? These are things your characters will feel and experience, adding realism to your world and the story overall. It paints a picture for your reader. A simple smell your character notices on the breeze feels like a simple descriptor, but maybe it reminds them of something. Or someone. “The smell of cigarette smoke wrapped itself amongst her hair, promising to not go anytime soon." As an example which ties into my next point a little-
Personification of objects and places
Cigarette smoke can’t promise you jack shit. But I LOOVEEE when a story utilises language like that to add some weight to a character’s emotions or the setting. It’s more descriptive, more fun to read and fleshes out details that might otherwise go unutilised. It can be a simple change but that doesn’t make it bad or boring :)
I really hope you got something from this, and going forward you get stronger in your writings!!

are you doing anymore ao3 stories anytime soon? particularly clouis 🤔
Hello anon!
It's kind of you to ask and inquire. Lately, I've been writing some drafts without any pressures of posting, doing it for myself and for the peace it brings me.
Buuuutt not for clouis :(( as of rn I have very little interest in writing about teenagers as I'm no longer one myself (I'm 23 now EEEK). I won't say it's completely off the table, I'm currently replaying twdg series, so maybe once I reach S4 I'll get a lightning strike of inspiration!
My current draft is for the wolf among us cuz if I'm never getting S2 then fuck it I'll make my own shit😎 maybe I'll post it, who knows!! No pressure babey! Anyways, I luv u all x
when are you making your return to wattpad? your stories in my opinion are incredible & would love to see more sometime down the line!
This is incredibly sweet of you to say :')
Truth be told, I am not entirely sure. Recently, I've been looking back at my old stories, and the rate I would pump them out is now insane to me (sixteen year old me was on something fr)
But now, at twenty-two, the sombre answer is I currently have little interest or inspiration to write specifically for twdg anymore :/ a shame I know, as without it, there would be no eyes on my stories.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the characters, I still love the series and I still love clouis moments, and all the joy writing for them has brought me over the years and the great people I've met.
Simply put, I'm not sixteen anymore with all the time in the world. I have new interests and new fandoms I would like to explore, or story snippets for different characters.
Whatever it may be, may be clouis again down the line, may be different characters, I owe so much of my writing confidence and ability to twdg, and to all of you!!
This was longer and sappier than I intended but aaaa thank u again for the ask🩷felt it necessary to explain my thoughts with this blog and what it will be going forward mwah
omg an active twau fan! i saw you were doing hcs a while ago. do you still do that or nah? either way its so awesome that the fandom isnt entirely dead/revived
Hey there lovely! I'm always up for some hcs. My inbox is always open, so if you have any hcs throw them my way :))
It's nice to see the fandom come back to life after the announcement of season two (finally amirite). So much new content has me Vibing
Ely hello! I sent you an ask a day or two ago from my phone but I don’t think it worked (never does on my phone smh) :// Whenever 7 Rings starts to play I think of you my best valentine💍
I must thank you kindly for getting me into Danganronpa, I have the soundtrack downloaded on Spotify and it’s honestly such a good listen <3

I dunno why, but yesterday I thought about Sophie and Louis dating before she gets taken by the raiders...(Weird Au, i know)
Nah that's not weird, I've heard headcanons in the past where Louis had a crush on Sophie before being taken. Given that we know very little about their lives before Clem showed up, could have been a possibility
