Another question! Do you have any OC's?
Of course I do! His names Dizzy!
He was a character I messed around and made in an Aggie with some friends (not to be mistaken with Paperjam they are different people)
There is more to his ref and there was a whole ask blog for him back in October if you check the tags you can see it!
I do have my own original characters as well for my own stories but I only really keep them for mindless doodles since Iâm too lazy to actually flesh out their story
I donât have their updated designs coloured but you get the idea
I donât post about them here since I try to keep this blog undertale related anyways but they exist.
You write Tom POV so well, but all the Tomâs in your stories still feel distinct? How do you do that?? I could not even write him normally (not that Tom is normal ever) let alone versions of him that all feel like him but are slightly different for each story T.T
this is so nice, thank you so much!
i find the first trick is isolating your characterâs core traits. then, once you have a sense of their most integral parts, you can fiddle with external stuff (environment, relationships, etc) without losing their integrity
for auâs especially (where the question becomes âhow do i make my character, whose entire sense of self was shaped by somethingâlike the existence of magicâfeel like himself without that thingâ) this is actually super fun if you enjoy character work!!
it starts similarly enough to rebuilding anything, really. if youâre going to take an object apart and put it back together with different pieces, you have to find substitutions that can fit where the originals did
sorry for my metaphor, pfft, but consider the âexistence of magicâ we mentioned earlier. so much of tomâs character motivation stems from thatâso, without magic, does he just cease to exist?
no! thatâs anti fanfic propaganda!!!
we just have to give him some narrative equivalent that he can treat the same way (like chess in tbok, or piano in steps, for example)
heâs an obsessive, controlling, ambitious sorta guy, and without that, he wouldnât feel like tom! so redirecting those traits can make him seem authentic even when the original motivation is gone
making him prodigious, giving him that tom-like superiority complex, feels canonical because it is. and shifting these traits onto something other than magic is what gives you room to play with what, exactly, that thing is
for my fics that still feature magicâwhich is, admittedly, most of themâi think the distinctions in tom come from 1.) their current circumstances in that moment of time, and 2.) the destabilization harry ends up doing to them
people change over the course of their lives, and different phases give me a lot to work with! is he young, and more malleable, like in fiawy? then his fixation on harry, his possessiveness, etc, can branch into so many logical changes over time
and as long as you keep the spirit of their canonical traits alive, theyâre going to become distinct from your other work on their own, because the things that happen over the course of a fic should show up in their interior world!
its just like you and me. our experiences leave a mark, and shape us going forward, in ways you donât even need to consciously try for :)
i will say that other people have less character focused ways of writingâmy povs are very interiorâso i canât help much out of my wheelhouse, sorry! iâm sure you could write a wonderful tom, though <3
iâm answering this a little high, i gotta be honest, and i did not realize i had written so much đđ but i hope any of this is helpful, and i love you!
I love your silly little tweets about harry and tom. Would love to see more where Dumbledore cyber bullies tom.
Love you loads *sends a very exaggerated wink alongside an equally dramatic flying kiss*

Did you know Tom Marvolo Riddle translates to Romeo G Detlev in Danish?
Having your name be literature's most yearning, pathetic and ardent lover in a language.... hmmmm...
You may be on to something
omgâŚ.
the danish took one look at that man and said ânow THERE is an obsessed, charming, marked-by-death lover boy if iâve ever seen oneâ

this how i picture for i am with you tomarry look when they arent playing each other. they both want that cookie baaaaaaad
you might mean âthe burden of kings,â but either way iâm giggling
honestly before writing tbok i never realized how popular the rpf chess community was. ive now been illuminated on the forbidden love between magnus carlson and hikaru nakamura, so shoutout to them for being my fanfic but real life. there are cathedrals everywhere for those with eyes to see.. i hope they kiss soon <3
Honestly I donât think people come to you for âTom Riddleâ or âTomarryâ, but very specifically your Tom Riddle, your Tomarry.Â
Every world you create feels so alive. Your scenes are dreamy, but sharp and focused at the same time. You have these insane lines (that should literally be studied in novels) but youâre not just a poet. Youâve got an instinct for rhythm and interiority I have never experienced while reading in my entire life. Itâs so full of emotional precision??
You show the worst parts of Tom, and then oh-so-carefully expose a tenderness in him that even he doesnât understand. You do âshow donât tellâ so well that I will literally never forget the scene in your Borgin and Burkeâs fic where you could miss that Tom was crying if you werenât paying enough attention. (Iâm never slacking, Dizzy. Iâm on the Tomarry frontlines.)Â
Itâs not just a fanfiction, itâs a bloody experience. I suffer with Tom, I yearn with him, I live inside his insane mind, and then I just have to go⌠file a report?? Mow my lawn??
And not only do you write like you genuinely love the characters - in a deep, literary sense - but itâs so obvious that you truly understand them. I genuinely donât think anyone could do what you do. I want to study you in a lab.
Idk what the Tomarrymort community did to deserve your stuff but thank you (and please never stop.) đŤśđž
my heart dropped into my stomach when i started reading the first line, and then this ended up being probably the kindest thing iâve ever read in my life
gosh, thank you. i know fanfic isnât something thatâs taken super seriously (hobbies and late stage capitalism donât pair well) but i really do pour a lot of care and attention into my work, and hearing people are genuinely invested in the stuff you create makes it all feel so worth it
brb, im going to go cry in the break room for a minute. i love you :,)
sometimes when i cant sleep i go and re read your fics. and that does nothing for my sleep because it throws me down a tunnel of your work and the WAY YOU DEPICT TOM GODDDDD and you know i just want to devour your fics i really do i need to stitch them into my vena cava and spread them through my lungs is it safe to say i love you?
thank you sm :,) iâm really glad you enjoy my fics!!! hearing people liked your work enough to reread it is always such a compliment, and iâm very happy you like the way i characterize tom
i love you too <33
