A fully abhinaya item, the padam often portrays the intricacies of nayaka-nayiki relationship through the bhava of bhakti or shringara.The Virahotkanthita nayika in this padam confides to her sakhi, what shall I do, has my Lord forgotten me? The man whose face surpasses the beauty of a lotus, the nayika laments, when will I hear his honeyed words again? The piercing arrows of love are countless. Oh dear friend, to whom else can I confide such sadness? Will you kindly tell him of my feelings, she asks. Alas, there is no one else for me other than my Lord.
She wears the bright, slender pearls upon her breasts though a burden She feels the soothing sandalwood paste as potent venom on her body She sighs the compass of her love, and in that breath, her passion burns She scatters everywhere a tear, as a lotus from its hollow stem She holds a palm against her cheek as evening steadies with the moon She sees a bed of tender leaves ordained for her as a funeral pyre instead Again she whispers "Hari, Hari", as though your absence was her death
