cowboy ethics apply to both humans and werewolves. for the most part, the two are able to coexist, but there will always be bad apples in each bunch. both equally capable of benevolence and cruelty.
faye is a wanted woman, running from the law and the sheriff she was forced to call her husband. she's wanted dead or alive and has nobody that she can turn to for protection, fearing that she may endanger those whom she holds dear. to her, leaving behind everything she has ever known is no sacrifice at all if it means keeping her loved ones out of harm's way.
ashveil and boothill are two men with profoundly unique moral codes and have lived most of their adult years as a bounty hunting duo. they're especially keen on setting their marks on criminals who are wanted dead or alive as those are usually the ones guilty of the most reprehensible crimes. but they're no fools. they know the ways in which even the law can be corrupted and fail its people.
when the duo picks up faye's wanted poster from a couple towns over, they are as intrigued as they are skeptical. they quickly track her down and want nothing more than to hear her side of the story.

faye β late-twenties. human. her family built their wealth through cattle ranching, so while she was not the ideal image of a wife, there were many suitors vying for her hand in marriage. most, if not all, were simply after her inheritance. one of them, however, was able to successfully trick her into thinking he truly loved her, using his status as a sheriff to garner her trust.
ashveil β mid-forties. werewolf. born into a cult, but his mother is able to escape with him. miraculously, she was able to remarry and build a better life for him, making sure to raise him to be compassionate and principled. he would become fixated on the idea of justice and strived to become a lawman, but he would eventually learn that fancy titles could never make the man. so he goes independent.
boothill β early-thirties. werewolf. adopted and raised by human parents, he lived a humble life with several other children. but when greedy businessmen seize his family's land, boothill, with no formal education, finds himself in a gang to help keep his family fed and housed throughout his teens and early-twenties. until he meets ashveil.
rappa β mid-twenties. werewolf. found by ashveil and boothill after her pack had been massacred by unknown assailants, leaving only her and mr. n behind. she suffered greatly from the tragedy and is unable to take on her wolf form nor care for herself and mr. n without the help of the duo. thankfully, with their support, she has been able to regain enough confidence to leave the house and explore her interests again.
mr. n β mid-forties. werewolf. a member of rappa's pack who sustained a nearly fatal wound that now permanently prevents him from changing into his human form. his days mostly consist of watching over rappa and the house while the others are away, the pain from his injury proving far too great to do much of anything else. but he is at least still able to indulge in some leisurely reading.

not all werewolves mingle with humans. some are nomads that largely keep to themselves and their packs, living entirely off the land. rappa and mr. n fell into this category.
werewolves typically prefer to eat animal meat, so humans being hunted or treated like prey is not an issue.
there are two types of werewolf transformations: full and partial. full is essentially the same as a normal wolf only larger, but not by very much. partial is the hybrid between human and wolf. in this form, they are at their most intimidating as they can be either bipedal or quadrupedal, and are stronger and larger than their other two forms.
ashveil and boothill hunt prey as full wolves, and their targets as partial wolves. they confront their targets as humans though, as to not scare them too much if they do happen to be falsely accused.
the duo are also investigating the massacre of rappa's pack.
despite being trapped in his wolf form, mr. n can speak perfectly fine. he just has an intimidatingly deep and resonant voice.
when the duo hears faye's side of events, and inevitably deem her innocent, they offer her protection and a place to stay as there will undoubtedly be more pursuers on her trail.
faye has never seen a werewolf in their non-human forms before. if she has ever met one in her life, she wouldn't have known.
faye now has two clients whom she also cuddles and kisses.
i initially thought ashveil's silver fingers were just accessories, like vivienne westwood armor rings but on steroids. but at this angle, they're very obviously prosthetics. ouuhhghh my poor detective, i'll bet his "broken leg" is also a prosthetic or at least beginning to decay. i wish hoyo would follow through with this part of his character because his cane is currently just a damn prop, but that's asking too much i fear.
