The Wheel of Fortune || Asher & Simon
Shuffle.
Shuffle.
Shuffle.
Simonâs hands carefully pushed the cards of his deck back into place for the fourth time. There was little that was going to pull Asher from his book today. That much was clear. It didnât stop him from trying though. In fact, Simon took it as a challenge at this point. While normally heâd love to sit and read, take in the day, but today he was just restless. And he wanted the attention of this man sitting across the table from him. Especially because he wanted to tuck those free strands of hair back behind his ear before he stole a kiss and ... chill out bud.
The deck was shuffled twice more before heâd managed to get the other to look up at him. Simon flashed that devilish grin and proceeded to lay out several of the cards. He could tell he was getting to Asher which was exactly what he wanted. âYou know there used to be very, very taboo nonsense told about cards like these.â He smiled at the worn cards, moving them slowly into line as theyâd been drawn. The wheel of fortune was first. âThey say that you arenât to buy your own deck but be gifted it.â He smiled as he eyed that card and then the next. The fool. So far heâd managed to find rather decent cards for the man before him. âThey also say youâre meant to ask the deck a question before you shuffle. But both of those are a bunch of nonsense.â He didnât know if Asher truly believed in anything he was saying or in what he was doing at all. But it was something Simon had been handed down from his mother and grandmother. Something he did to keep them alive in whatever capacity he could.Â
They hadnât really shared too much about their pasts. But as Simon got more into these cards, regardless of Asherâs thoughts, he saw good in them. Good for the both of them. The lovers and the ten of pentacles were next in line. It was hard not to imagine these were drawn for the two of them. He almost second guessed his shuffle but there wasnât any way he could have grouped these cards together like he had even if he tried. âOne of the more crazy theories is that if anyone else but you touches them then theyâll lose their abilities.â Simon turned over the final card; the star. All cards upright, all inviting and ready for what was to come. The smile tugged harder to the side as heâd leaned over them, laying his hand out on the table for Asher to take.Â
âI want you to tell me what you think each of these ones mean.â His fingers wagged in the open air for the otherâs hand. It wasnât very often he wanted to listen to someone elseâs interpretation of his cards. But Asherâs mind was just something that fascinated him to the point that Simon couldnât actually explain why or how it had. Almost like he was under a spell of sorts. Or he was really just that smitten and he didnât know how else to explain it. But Simon knew that was really the case. Especially when those warm hues were mirroring back the same sort of affection for him. âIâm curious to see where you think your fate is headed. And I want to see if you can really bluff like the rest of us.â He winked and bit back a chuckle as the two of them sat there. The last part was really just a joke but still, wanting to see his reaction was worth the little bit of teasing heâd give the other. âGo on then.â
