In the initial stages I thought my sculpture would focus just on the inner body. As I developed and paid close attention to my research, Cronenberg’s ‘The Fly’ in particular I thought that the relationship between the inner body and the outer body sent quite a confronting message of what it means to be human. So I wondered how I could incorporate this relationship into the work.

PHOTOSHOOT- ASSESSMENT 2
I decided to take three photos of each person. One full shot, one mid and one close up to see which would work best. From these photos i think i will use the mid shot to have a clear view of both face and body. I chose to have all the photos the same so that the people were mostly only differed by their glitches. All wearing black with a white background to make them stand out as well as their glitches. I am quite happy with how the photos turned out.
Assessment 2- initial progress/research
I was interested in exploring human glitches. I myself would consider a human glitch as a medical glitch. Although after some research and information gathering it became clear that the word glitch associates more with people’s self esteem/self image. I asked some friends of mine two questions without giving them any context and took down their first answer. here are the results.
What is a glitch ? annoying fucked up shit that happens in games and ruins shit.
What is glitched about you? my mouth because I say shit without thinking and it can make things worse and piss people off
what is a glitch ? a defect, something wrong or unusual What is glitched about you ? my eyes are glitched. One is stronger than the other, and they’re never symmetrical in photos. What is a glitch ? an error in a program What is glitched about you ? I think my figure is glitched because it is too big. What is a glitch? when something goes wrong or is not supposed to be there What is glitched about you ? My nose is glitched because it is too wide for my face. I will photograph each person and try to visually represent their glitch using glitch aesthetics.
Below is the ‘short story’ I wrote for this stranger, keep in mind its very first impressions and I wrote based on what I immediately perceived. As I wrote this I felt myself drawing back into my own heritage and family history, I saw aspects of that within him. I think this demonstrates that when you are given no real information about an image, you are forced to draw back into your own experiences to attempt to understand it.
“Joseph had spent most of his life in Hong Kong working as an accountant, however he grew dissatisfied and discontent with his surroundings. He worked and lives in environment polluted by smog and almost always surrounded by large concrete buildings, working/living in tight spaces in an over populated county. Joseph sought to escape the mundanity of his life and decided to travel to a Western country, he would chose Australia. Once Joseph had flown to Australia, he immediately travelled into the rural country where he would no longer be surrounded by a concrete jungle but rather the open land full of trees, mountains, lakes and waterfalls. Joseph travelled by himself which one may think to be a lonesome experience but Joseph found it to be very freeing as it completely juxtaposed the overcrowded life he had back in Hong Kong.Being within Australia, Joseph began to appreciate the way of life that was upheld in Australian culture that contrasted his Chinese upbringing. In Hong Kong, not only would he have to work for himself he would eventually have to make enough money to look after his parents as his tradition in Chinese culture; not only this, but his parents were a constant source of pressure to find a wife, if he did not improve his living and work standards he would have a lot of trouble being accepted as a woman’s husband. However in Australia, none of these problems concerned him and he was able to do whatever pleased him without any burden.”
My discussion of question 3.
Today’s society was created by many rebellious movements throughout western and especially in art history.
Doing my research I realized rebellion is usually an extremist idea or act, yet in this modern world there are more peaceful forms of rebellion for example parades of silence. Therefore rebellion can be only be on the scale of violent or peaceful never inbetween since it is considered normal, so to call rebellion has been canonized we view rebellion as a result not an process of change. We must reassess this observation and view it as the process of change to achieve or promote some sort of result.
This process of rebellion is achieved within my poster is to remove the paint and the result is a completely different poster. My audience goes againist what my poster says to end up with a message revealed underneath the darkness of rebellious images and permanently changes my poster.
Studying two extremely talented and influential contemporary artists both Damien Hirst and Patricia Picinini have many things in common such as the controversy and interaction with the audience created by their artworks. These days an artist is no longer just in a studio working in their own. Hirst and Picinini both also collaborate with other artists/professions to commission their artworks and can only be enabled to do this because of new technology.
Therefore new technology is what enables art to be created via collaborations which can be interactive and controversial to the audience. This is explained within my poster, as my audience provoked by my controversial poster creates change in it by collaborating together and interact with the poster.
My poster was cleverly composed to represent what is contemporary rebellion by the interaction with my poster. Since i view rebellion as a process of change, the audience permanently changes my poster as the actions stop me to never be able to retrieve the normal state the poster was in. Rebellion happens so much because everyone now speaks for themselves and has an opinion for everything so my definition of contemporary rebellion may not be what someone else thinks but I will certainly change my audience’s thoughts through my poster.
