_____ grabbed her companion's hand to get his attention. "Seungkwan, the bounty for both of our heads is up until the end of the week. If we—"

"I know, I know." he cut her off. "But we don't really have an abundant source of money to be able to afford a room and Joshua's just using his connections with the owner to let us stay for free tonight. Heck, we don't even have anything other than that diamond."

The girl clasped her hands together on the table. _____ knew that the monarchy would find them by tomorrow night if they left the inn. If this were a normal night and she was a normal person, going to the inn and enjoying a hot meal would have been something she enjoyed doing. But she wasn't a normal girl and this wasn't a normal night.

Seungkwan looked around nervously, trying to spot if any of the king's spies lying around. His hands were absentmindedly playing with hers on the table. Cuts and wounds from the last few days were still prominent on his hands. His face looked tired, streaked with dirt and dust. Not that she looked any better though, they had been on the run and in hiding for the past couple weeks. Compared to the patrons that were dining all around them, one could easily single them out single them out as outsiders if not for the hoods covering their faces.

Stealing the Carat Diamond was one of their biggest and most difficult missions. It was worth so much money and held so much power that, of course, the king wanted it for himself. It was one of the most guarded objects in the kingdom. But the diamond didn’t belong to the king, it belonged to the people so they were taking it back. They had almost gotten killed trying to steal it and now the king had put up a bounty for both of them, desperate to get the diamond back in his hands.

The wind howled outside, small branches flying about. The storm was stronger than _____ had thought. Her companion looked out the window, looking to his left and right. "I keep feeling like someone's watching us." Suddenly, his face turned pale. The boy rummaged around his cloak in a panic. "We have to get out." his voice trembled with fear as he spoke. "Now."

Before they could even move, the door of the inn burst open. Three armed men entered, swords gleaming in their hands. A hush fell over the inn as everyone gaped at the knights. It was obvious that they worked for the king. The proud looks on their bearded faces said it all. Any person related to the monarchy was a rare sight in such a rural part of the kingdom. The nobility usually didn't look twice at the poorer parts of the country which was a relief to the people that lived there because getting involved with the royals would mean that they had done something wrong and were about to be punished for it. Two of them carried swords while the third had a bow strapped to his back.

_____ immediately turned her head to hide her face. Her heart was pounding so hard. The pouch that hung by her hip felt a hundred times heavier. Seungkwan gently nudged her with his leg. The boy tilted his head towards the exit behind him before slowly bringing out his dagger.

"The king has enemies that reside in this inn." a knight with black hair that came down to his jaw shouted to the people. "I suggest that you turn yourselves in so that nobody gets hurt."

A table near the knights were standing suddenly flipped itself over. That was the distraction they needed to escape.

_____ quickly got up and ran to the exit, Seungkwan at her heels. It helped that the people in the inn had gone into a panic as it provided them with a cover to escape. The exit led to a trapdoor, opening down into a dark tunnel that seemed to run under the inn. Fire-lit lamps were nailed onto the walls every few meters. It seemed that it was made for quick escapes or as a bomb shelter at times of war.

Though they didn't know where it led, the two forged into the tunnel. Right now, anywhere was better than at the inn. Seungkwan blew out the lamps they passed to avoid the chances of being followed. _____ could still hear the chaos that was ongoing in the inn even from way down under the ground. Then her ears picked up another sound. The sound of clanking metal echoing in the tunnel.

Apparently, the knights weren't afraid of running through a tunnel in complete darkness because soon enough they had caught up to Seungkwan and _____. Metal clashed as Seungkwan intercepted a sword strike from the knight at the front. The tunnel was so narrow that the sword made a large scratch on the wall. _____ stood paralyzed in fear, staring at the point where sword and dagger met. He pushed the knight away and grabbed his frozen companion.

"Run!" Seungkwan bellowed at her, snapping her out of shock. They took off into the tunnel, too scared to look back. Whizzing sounds came from behind them, getting dangerously close. The two thieves looked at each other in fear as they realized that arrows where flying past them.

One of the arrows grazed _____'s arm making her shout in pain. More and more arrows flew by, drawing blood as they pierced flesh. By some miracle, they managed to evade getting hit directly by one.

They were well ahead of the knights now but they still needed an escape route. Seungkwan's eyes landed on the wooden framework overhead that was supporting the ceiling. He looked up and saw a bunch of rocks supported by it. If that support were to give in those rocks could fall and crush them.

Or it could save them.

The boy pushed on one of the wooden frameworks with his body, the rocks around them groaning as the support system that held the tunnel together weakened.

_____ noticed what he was doing and did the same to the other support column. Shouts of the knights made their heads snap up. The fear gave them more strength to push harder. Soon rocks and boulders came crashing down, blocking the entire tunnel.

Seungkwan was about to make a run for it when he noticed that _____ was on the floor. Her foot had gotten buried in during the collapse. Now she was writhing in pain, trying to free herself from the wreckage.

"Hurry up and remove these rocks or they'll get away!" The muffled voices of their pursuers came from the other side of the wall.

Breathing hard, Seungkwan got to work as well, removing the stones that held his companion captive. Tears streamed down her face as _____ took the pouch from the waistband and forced it into Seungkwan's hands. "Take the diamond, Seungkwan. You have to go." she croaked; her voice thick with pain.

"I'm not leaving you here," he muttered, ignoring the ouch and continuing to remove rocks.

"No, you have to—."

_____ found her mouth being pressed against something warm and soft which effectively shut her up. Seungkwan pulled away and looked into her eyes, his own flaming with anger and determination.
