1, 18, and 22 for the WIP asks?
hI sorry this took so long, I wanted to wait till I was on my laptop to reply—
1: Tell me about your current WIP! My current project is going by Of Ascension at the moment! It started life as a thinly veiled sleep token fanfic & is still kinda a thinly veiled sleep token fanfic, but that's okay. It's about a man who feels like he's broken, he's lost, he's a detriment to everyone around him—perhaps he'd be better off dead, since he so clearly was not meant for this world. He's offered the chance to become a god and shed his broken mortal flesh, and the book is about the trials he undergoes in his pursuit of ascension & how, perhaps, he begins to realize that there can be beauty in the brokenness innate to mortality. I'm…. almost done with it, sort of? I'm currently speedrunning writing it as much as possible, because the deadline for a contest I enter annually is Saturday XD rn, I'm writing some scenes as fast as possible & also trying to connect loose ends, because a lot of the project as it currently exists is a bunch of drabbles I originally wrote to be stand-alones. I think I like the prose best in this story? I've never really been one for prose, but I think Shakespeare's started possessing me while I write this lol
18: Do any of my stories have alternative plot lines? Hah, yes. Of Ascension is one of those. This contest has very strict PG-13 guidelines and, as it's originally meant to be, Of Ascension is waaaaay too dark to fit that. So, I'm currently writing a lobotomized version of it that speeds up the events of the storyline and also relies heavily on implication, rather than directly stating what's going on. My very first novel, Operation Hailfire, also has two variants— one in which it gets a somewhat hopeful ending & there's room left for a sequel, and one in which things end poorly. At least, that's how I originally intended it to be, I think that realistically, I'll stick with the first option
22: Do I reread my old works & how do I feel about them? Yes, unfortunately XD I often find myself mourning a lot of my old writing, because it wasn't quite so heavy, and writing was less of a chore, since I wasn't so burnt out then. I'm constantly impressed by the ideas that younger me had, but I can also admit that yeah, I've vastly improved since then—except with Soul. OG Soul was a masterpiece & I will never write anything like it again, I fear XD no im not elaborating on that rn, only Nico gets to understand it
