i decided to do 30k this april and i am about seven hundred words from that, and I am celebrating by writing stupid indulgent shit to get me over the finish line here we go.
Whatever else you could say about the Thorntons, they knew how to make an entrance. Laurentina Thornton was tall like her father; though she had her mother's brown hair and ruddy complexion they had styled her as darkly as her ghostly father in deep green. Her earrings had gems that resembled pomegranate seeds threaded on gold chains that dangled nearly to her shoulders and draped across her collarbone, and her tousle of hair was cropped and styled in a way that sharpened the lines of her face. With her maquillage it made her striking, keen as glass. Cordelia thinks of Hyacinth Chevalier, always styled in delicate silks and organza, silver-filigree scabbard hiding a true steel blade, and wonders which had dressed in contrast to the other.
cordelia at a party (shocker) dealing with politics (crazy). feat. possible enemies/definite fashionistas i guess. crazy the amount of court in my court intrigue novel i say for the millionth time.

feast of roses for the ask game đ đš no idea what it could be but i LOVE the vibes
The first Cordelia sees is a flickering. At the far reaches of the bay, where sand and rocky stone petered out into the water, she spies the barest glimpse of shadow moving steadily toward the shore. As it drew closer it gained strength, the soft edges of its image manifesting itself; the fluttering sails, the curved prow of the barge from which the lantern hung as a star, and finally, the woman veiled in grey seated at the front. She wears no ring or ornament, nothing but grey fabric. When she raises a hand, the resulting roar scatters what seabirds remained.
Haha thank you em! as you might guess is in fact one of the reskinned asawt pieces; the feast of roses is a major holiday that occurs in the story with a big parade/carnival time. This is a bit from the opening processional of it. this is also a 'cant believe this court intrigue story has a lot of social engagements to advance the plot' moment for me. i also love the vibes <3
for the oc asks: 1 and 5 for cordelia, 7 for my favorite foodie terran, and 17 for marius!
Thank you for the ask em! OC ask game found here (x) it got long so under a read more
Who are they closest to? How did they meet and what do they like to do together? (Cordelia)
Cordelia is probably closest to her sistersâher intense study at the Academy meant it was hard to maintain long-term friendships, and students at the academy were generally competing against each other. Her closest friend, however, would be Brigette, a printer's apprentice who she met when their respective parents started to work together. The two of them like to read pamphlets, go to plays and walk the market at River Court together! The other possible contender is Wilhelmina Kante, a young alchemist two years her senior, but since she graduated before Cordelia and took a post up north they haven't been as close. They still exchange letters though!
5. How affectionate are they? What are their top love languages? (C)
Good question! I think that Cordelia tends to be fairly contained with her affection, learned from the sort of "courtly restraint" that defines the idea of noble standing in Deoraâgracious but not earnest, warm but not effusive, funny without being jovial, organic without being spontaneous, etc. Basically you're supposed to make everything you do appear effortless and natural. I think her top two love languages are words of affirmation and acts of service.
7. What are 3 foods they canât live without? (Terran)
yes this is the perfect question for him đ i had to google food to figure this out LMAO
Terran has, over time, found himself interested less in the "prestige" of a dish then the quality of its ingredients, he would much rather have something simple with excellent ingredients then something very elaborate but sort of out of season. He insists he can taste the difference between alchemically-forced grown vegetables and seasonally grown.
Baked white fish with lemon cream sauce
Butternut squash soup
Bread puddingâa dish he didn't come around to until later, but one he really likes now.
17. Do they consider themselves to be romantic? Why or why not?
I think prior to Cordelia, Marius had absolutely no concept of Romance as applying to him. Like yes, other people have fallen in love and continue to do so. Has he been in love? He doesn't understand the question.
I think he would not consider himself a romantic. It's not romantic to him to call Cordelia extraordinary, or to constantly solicit her opinion/defer to her judgement, because in his mind she is extraordinary so that's just like? her due? Marius treats her with earnest admiration because that's what she deserves as someone who is incredibly intelligent, capable and kind, there's nothing romantic about it from his point of viewâalthough I think most people would call that romantic LMAO that's just marius....
tagged by @emeraldgreaves to find these words in my WiPs! Thank you for the tag em!
convince
No, the letter had been worth a chiding. This was a real danger to Eliseâs status and reputation, and Cordelia doubted snapping had convinced her of Cordeliaâs willingness to keep it secret. She strives to soften her tone. Their relationship had been quarrelsome. She could only hope that it would not bar her now from Eliseâs trust.
From ASAWT where Cordelia reconnects with a old school-rival who's committing a little light lèse-majestÊ <3
carry
It was barely a kiss, both of them exhausted and battle-worn, over too quick because he tried to carry her to the medical site and EsmĂŠ had viciously cursed him out for it, and that had sort of killed the mood. He hadn't spoken to her since.
A very much wip between my sidestep and ortega, which is currently titled "a challenge?? this warrants making out right now."
consider
Elenah had thought Carys bony and angular, but in light of all she had learned she revises it to gaunt. Muscle does little to pad what must be a hollow stomach, if Hatzirahâs suggestion of inconsistent food were to believed. Considering it had Elenahâs own stomach cramping in sympathy. She had never gone truly hungry; certainly she had never been anything but well fed at the Temple, although in earlier years, while her mother had moved her and YĂŠthin from place to place, there had been harder days then others.
ATOFAF, Elenah on her girl's roadtrip to pacify an angry god and getting hit in the face with resource disparity.
curious
âI suppose what I mean is that I do not think you would marry under false pretenses.â Marius says. His fingers drum thoughtfully on the slender silver ridge of machinery. âYou would not lie to someone and say you loved them, or lead them in any way to think such. Butââ He shrugs minutely. âMarriages are often not about love. You are practical. You desire social and monetary advancement and will take steps to secure it. If someone came to you with a proposition of marriage, with the reasoning of it being a mutually beneficial business arrangement, I think that you would accept.â He gives her a curious look. âWould you say otherwise?â
Cordelia is Known but not Judged and that feels weird (good? still weird though)
