her auburn hair shines near as bright as the red leaves of the heart tree against the white wintered godswood. arya had known she would find her here. it was where they all had gone, when they needed some semblance of calm. of comfort. especially in recent days past. arya had found herself here more than once or twice.
❛ do you remember how father would sit out here for hours? ❜ with that, she’s made herself known, taking those few steps closer to her sister. though her gaze has found the face of the weirwood tree. that haunting face that connected them all to the old gods. to their father’s gods.
❛ sometimes he would kneel, and other times he would sit there --- right in front. ❜ her head nods just slightly, a gentle gesture toward the spot their father had always liked. ❛ sometimes i would ask to go with him. i’d follow him all the way out here, and i would sit beside him, praying to old gods. ❜ there’s a sad sort of smile on her face. she can feel the prickle of tears behind her eyes, but she shall not cry. ❛ i never knew what i was meant to be praying for. i think i just wanted to be out here with him. ❜
she had loved her father dearly. life without him was unthinkable when she’d been a child --- though here she was. here they all were. the godswood was the closest they had to him. it was where his spirit lived, she was sure. with the old gods of the north. and they had watched over his children all these years past.
it was here that she felt closer to him. it caused her heart to ache --- with love and heartbreak, all the same. she missed him. so terribly.
she knew sansa must feel the same. she knew she must be searching for him now. for guidance. though it was only a guess, really, she knew her sister. and arya knew that she would be doing the same.
❛ do you think he’s here? ❜
