Wise Words In The Chinese Restaurant
So there I was, waiting for my usual order of fried wontons at the Chinese Restaurant, when I overheard two individuals (older man & woman) in deep conversation about the usual irrelevance of life in rockaway. What stood out about these two was not the fact that they fit the description of a corner store hero (my little name for drunks who hang out at the bodega), but the fact that after their banter, they began to speak about education and college. You see, from my eavesdropping due to me waiting for my food, I learned that the older woman was in school to become an art teacher. To top it off, what the old man said to the lady really stuck with me:
"my darling if you succeed, we all succeed"
How I interpreted it was that if one of us makes it out the hood and do something with our lives, then that'll serve as a catalyst for more success. When one serves as a positive role model, more will follow.
So ladies and gentlemen If one of us succeed, we all will succeed.
-now excuse me, my wontons are waiting :)
