“12 STEPS”
by Jose Loza
“Wanderer, there is no road, the road is made by walking.” —Antonio Machado
Council District 9 at the very northern tip of Long Beach serves as home to almost 54,000 residents, and two years ago it launched the Creative Corridor Challenge in a multi-faceted approach to beautifying the community—one of the efforts being creation of new murals. In early 2016 local artist Jose Loza, assisted by Chuck Jordan, added the third such mural at 59th St. and Cherry Ave. on the side of Intercity Fellowship Hall. Loza says he has been working in the realm of public art for more than 15 years, and while he says this mural symbolizes rebirth, as well as providing a nod to the drug and alcohol recovery programs offered inside, like so many successful mural artists he ultimately wanted to create a design the viewer could interpret on their own. @jmloza_art @artslb
