Arts Goggle - Museum Experience
I attended Arts Goggle with a friend in Fort Worth on Saturday, October 12. The drive was simple until we arrived at the location and were unsure of where to park. Once we found a suitable place, we exited the car and were met with a sudden heavy rain, for which neither of us were prepared. We walked a couple of blocks over to the street where the event was being held and waited under the canopy of a restaurant’s entrance, although we were already drenched from the walk. The buildings and tents were filled with people who were also escaping the rain.
Once the weather let up, we made our way across the street and browsed a row of tents selling handmade jewelry, wood plaques, buttons, and various articles of clothing. We continued to walk along the sidewalk and reached another bunch of booths, this time the merchandise consisted of ceramic mugs and bowls and some photography prints. Nothing had particularly caught our eye yet, though. In a building there were several suites that had been filled and many of the rooms were set up as exhibitions for artists. Upstairs, one of the artists displayed was Christopher Durbin whose works were 11x7 photographic prints on aluminum of a lifelike figure dramatizing the everyday things we do. Downstairs, a boutique named Two Birds One Stone was selling items from its store which was originally started as an online-only but had recently began to transfer over to a building where customers could physically browse their products.
While walking further, peeking at the booths we passed by for anything of interest, we encountered a glassblowing demonstration at the SiNaCa studios which we stayed and watched for a few minutes. For years, I have been intrigued by glassblowing and I hope to eventually take a class to learn how to work with it. Outside of the studio they had beautiful multicolored glass pumpkins for sale, in them you could place a tea light and the color of the glass would transform the light.
I enjoyed Arts Goggle and found it very inspiring and a good experience for aspiring artists to attend and certainly to the artists who participated in the event. Although there were not many pieces that I found interesting, I am glad that I attended because it was a lovely way to spend a Saturday night.
