This is Calderon! The Fire/Ground evolution of Varko. I was pretty happy with how his design came out back when I first made it. Looking over him now I think I must have been subconsiously inspired by Flamedramon sice some elements of their design are similiar. It also surprised me when I noticed that a Fire/Dark type (Varko) evolved into a Fire/Ground type since it seems a bit of a backward step in terms of it's typing. XD But pretty cool. A warmup I did today, this "Gilnean Mage" commish was initially done in Feb 2016. I tried to see how much I could improve the aesthetics and design, following same brief. I finished it back then but only now I managed to nail the look I really wanted. It's also OK I guess.. growth takes time and the vision is always ahead of what the hands can do. Time taken = 1h 20min
