Last weekend, I went to Timișoara. There I met a very nice artist, Livia Mateiaș, who took me to see a bridge she, with the help of the local community, covered with crocheted pieces. The bridge is called Podul de poveste (Fairytale Bridge) and is located close to the water plant in Timișoara.
The bridge which is made of metal was quite degraded, rusty and unfriendly looking. They reconditioned the bridge and painted it in several colors. During several workshops that took place in the park, on the grass, next to the bridge, they crocheted the pieces that now cover the bridge. It feels really nice to lean on the railing now, with the soft material on it.
After the bridge was done, they hanged some bags on the bridge in which people who wanted to donate could, and those who needed what was in, could take them. This event took place in December last year, but Livia found bags with goods afterwards. It seems this became a place where people who want to will donate anytime they feel it.
The bridge is really close to the water plant, and there is a spot where you can sit on the grass and listen to the water flow. Both, me and Livia, love to listen to the water flow. She said she sitted there while writing the project for the bridge. While we were sitting there, one of the fishermen who became friends with Livia over time came to chat with us a little. That was so nice. I also took the time to make a sketch of the place, to which I added color after coming home.
