If Artos will not return to me the old freedom, the old power, I will fight him for it. I want to hold and hurt his beautiful young favorite, his darling; I want to see that proud, bright child trapped as one would cage a little bird, helpless as a wren or robin beating vain and desperate wings against bars of my making. I mean to rape and ruin what Artos loves best until he too bends broken to my will.
Ginerva killing Lleu that's unexpected! Who'd think she was a person capable of such violence! How would she kill Lleu? In a way he doesn't notice? (poison? would she strangle him in his sleep?) When I was asking about a Morgause wins AU I was actually thinking of Artos also being taken prisoner. With what would he distract himself and would Morgause allow him distraction from herself? A different question: would Artos commit suicide or ask one of his knights to kill him, because he wants the brave king who died fighting for his kingdom to be the image that people will have of him rather than be remembered as the coward who'd give away his body to the Queen of Orcney to survive? Could you see Artos tasking some of Lleu's knights with the order to kill Lleu should they lose the battle or cause his death in another indirect way (if yes how would he go about it?)? If Goewin was still with Lleu would he be cruel enough to force the twins to swap places, cut her hair and let Goewin be taken prisoner while Lleu escapes? How would the twins react to this and what would Morgause/Medraut do with Goewin?
I think if she had time, she would do it in a painless way, i.e., poison or suffocating him in his sleep. But, I do think that if need be, she could stab him if she didn't have the time to slowly and painlessly kill him.
Oh, I see! I am not sure what he would do to distract himself. I guess if he truly lost and it was over, maybe he would just find some building project to devout himself to. I don't think Morgause would care as long as she is able to still mess with him when she wants to.
I am not sure if Artos would end his life. I just think of him as too much of a passive character but I guess if it came down to it. He could. I think he would have to be wounded a bit. I don't think he would give up without a fight though, in some sense, he has to fight and lose for him to think about ending his own life. I don't know if he could kill Lleu. Even if he knew Morgause would take him. I don't think he would do that. I don't know why but he is just not a character I can see killing his own son, even if it was out of love or concern for him.
But if he had to, I think he would have someone else take care of it. They would have to go about it so Lleu doesn't see it coming, i.e., poison, killing him in his sleep, or stabbing him in the back.
I don't see Artos asking Goewin to trade places with Lleu but I do see Goewin taking it upon herself to switch places or go in Lleu's stead. Goewin has the initiative and audaciousness to do such a thing, even if it was behind Lleu's back. I do not see Lleu allowing his sister to go in his place. I think if Goewin tried to pull off pretending to be Lleu, it would not work for Medraut. Maybe Morgause would be fooled but not Medraut. He would know that it was Goewin immediately. Medraut also knows how to manipulate Lleu and now he has his sister. Medraut would use that against Lleu. He would force Lleu to give himself up.
if Morgause has Artos captured would she still desire Medraut? And would Artos be jealous? He was the one who send Medraut to the Orcaces but perhaps he saw it as a sacrifice he had to make to make sure Lleu becomes an independent king. Is he jealous of what Medraut and Lleu have? Jealousy is such a big theme in twp and nhhtt that Artos does stuck out as the odd one for not displaying anything like that at all, which could be explained by he came out as the winner in the fight for the crown and got what he wanted. Do you think he was ever jealous of what Morgause had when they were younger?
I think if Morgause has Artos she will still desire Medraut. She has her claws in him, she has power and authority of over Medraut in a way she will never have over Artos. Medraut will never truly be her equal and she likes that.
I don't know if jealousy is the right word for what I imagine Artos would feel in that situation. In some sense, disgust with a twinge of jealousy but also regret and maybe shame? He would be jealous because I do still think he has feelings for Morgause and a lot of his mistakes are borne out of those feelings. But he would also be disgusted at Morgause and what she is doing with her own child. A part of him would also know that it was his fault as well. He in some way did allow this to happen. He knew Morgause and who she had become and he knowingly sent his child to live with her.
Again, I do not think that Artos is jealous of Lleu and Medraut. Maybe his is jealous of their intimacy, their closeness but not their relationship. He does not want to see Lleu and Medraut pretty much reenact his own mistakes. Although, I do have to say that I think Artos and Morgause's relationship is different than Medraut and Lleu's. Theirs started more innocently in my mind even if it is the reason everyone else suffers.
I don't think Artos is a jealous character, probably because as you said, he got what he wanted. He has the crown, power and authority. He has what he wanted, or thinks he wanted. I think he is more of a regretful character. He regrets what happened between he and Morgause, he regrets how it ended, he regrets that he sent Medraut away, he regrets how he treated Lleu, he regrets what he did to both of them. He is the character with the most power and agency in the story because he is the king but he is also the most passive character. He sits and watches, waiting to act until he absolutely has to and because of that, a lot of people suffer for it.
Lleu is afraid of the dark and sleep because of Medraut and Medraut wants to force himself sleep with drugs because he is afraid of Morgause, does Artos have any special fears that were caused by Morgause and developed odd habits because of her?
Hmm, I am not sure. I haven't thought too much about Morgause and Artos's relationship. I do like to think that it was, at least at the start, very different from any other of their relationships. Their relationship was at first built on genuine affection and love for the other person but it of course soured and they ended up hurting and betraying each other. The turn their relationship takes ultimately leads to everyone else's suffering. I like to think betrayal and manipulation was something Morgause learned as her and Artos's relationship dissolved and rotted.
But if you have any ideas, I would love to hear it!!

I cannot apprehend Artos like, at all. This man deserves to see history repeat itself when he catches Lleu leaving his brother's room late at night.
Forget about everything else I wanna see the of OG sibcest, headcanon that Morgause was older than Artos and had to baby him in the same way Goewin and Medraut had to with Lleu which is why she feels as if Artos owes her something.
I'd kill for a prequel or a short story about Artos and Morgause. They give off proto Medlleu vibes (legitimate child/bastard, healer poisoner/swordsman, jealousy, incest). I find it curious that Morgause had Artos in a vulnerable position and chose to seduce him instead of using this opportunity to murder him right then and there. If she had only wanted the crown she could have picked the easier way. Contrary to all reason she tried to babytrap her brother and thought he would make his sister queen when presented with their bastard. This plan never would have worked if Artos had never felt more than physical attraction towards Morgause.
Furthermore Morgause never seriously tried to murder Lleu in TWP and Artos never really punished her for poisoning his most treasured child which implies there exists still some sort of affection between them (or that she still has some sort of sway over him). He was harsher on Medraut than Morgause. Maybe Artos wasn't mad that Morgause fucked Medraut, because she violated his son but he was jealous that she was fucking his son and not him. He is unable to love Medraut. To him it must be like seeing a corrupted version of himself. Morgause used Medraut as a canvas to carve the psychological trauma she inflicted onto Artos and he tried to conceal from the eyes of others, in physical form into Medraut for all the world to see. Medraut's existence will always be a reminder of the sins Artos had committed and a knife to rip open old wounds. In no Human Hands to Touch Morgause herself says making Medraut her lover was a way to triumph over her brother. I could imagine that Morgause had been projecting Artos on him while Artos had been projecting Morgause on him. Medraut had been hurt and molded by them, because his parents could not punish and change the person they felt betrayed by.
It's quite ironic that the child that Artos favoured ends up to be the most like his sister. Perhaps this is the true reason why Artos loves Lleu so much. At least subconsciously he must have picked up on their similarities.
My headcanon, just like yours, is that Morgause is the elder sister and Artos the little brother. In Camelot 2011 Morgan accuses Uther of having murdered her mother, which made it possible for him to marry Arthur's mother Igraine. I like your idea that as a child Morgause was longing for Igraine's love, even though her stepmother was also the reason of her mother's death. I could imagine that Morgause tried to harm Artos when he was a baby, as a form of revenge for her mother (she couldn't kill Igraine because she liked Igraine and felt like it was Igraine's duty to replace her mother and love her like her own child as rependence for her marriage with Uther), but then baby Artos grabbed her ring finger with his tiny hand which held the knife and she was stunned as she was met with the full force of Artos' gaze. Artos' first sight would be filled with the image of his sister. And then she decided that Artos was hers <3
I'm fond of Lleu-Morgause parallels. They are both legitimate children with a claim to the throne, they are prideful, vain and cruel. They have a liking for luxury goods and exotic pets, in particular birds. I imagine that they both felt trapped and powerless during their childhood. Lleu by his illness and his father's protectiveness and Morgause felt shackled by her gender and the strict rules of the convent she was send to. In the beginning she might have assisted Artos in his quests and lived vigorously through him.
I don't think Morgause and Artos grew up together. I could imagine that she knew Artos when he was a toddler. Personally I think Uther send her away as soon as he got word that his wife birthed him a son. It'd be a crazy coincidence if the convent was located next to the village where Merlin send Artos to be fostered but not impossible :) Her status as holy woman could have given her a rare kind of power over him. She was a princess betrothed to god, he was an orphan with unknown origins. I can picture that young Artos was enthralled and in awe of the beautiful woman that had taken a shine to him and willing to accept her terms for a secret relationship. She'd teach him reading with her favourite myths and he'd write her greek poetry like the lovesick fool he was. Back then the greatest joy he could imagine was becoming her knight and fighting battles in her name. He made countless promises and vows to her and he broke all of them. That's why Morgause hates liars and would punish Medraut severely if she suspected him of having been dishonest about something.
