Hey Guys!! Zoe and I are here to share a little bit of something with you guys! Well... Can you take a hint? we’re going to share about one of our local artists here in Davao and give you a little bit of something about him and his artworks AND OUR ARTIST FOR TODAY IS...
BONG PEREZ!!!Â
BIO:
Bong Perez is a local artist based in The Philippines specifically in Davao City, and he was born on April 15, 1970. He grew up in Davao City and worked as an art instructor at Philippines Science High School in Mindanao for seven years which is like REALLY REALLY cool. After that, he then went abroad for a study grant in Japan in 1998 to further enhance his skills in his field. After completing his studies, he was hired by the Philippine Women’s University Institute of Fine Arts and Design as a special lecturer from 2005 to 2007 (SANA OL) and then returned to Davao with the goal of sharing knowledge of art to his own community from what he had learned through his experiences.
ABOUT HIS ARTWORKS:
His artworks are inspired by his surroundings and the culture in it. Mainly places and the people in the places he’s visited, such as Japan. In one of his 2015 art pieces, “Urban Walk” he states that art is an expression of his appreciation for God’s creation. He creates his works using oil and acrylic in his art with the subjects of landscapes, ethnic culture, and people in the urban areas in vibrant colorful details. “Nipa Hut at the Bay” is a perfect example of how he portrays sad realities yet said in such colors that make it seem balanced. With the use of colors of the clothes hung onto the nipa hut, it adds character to it as many of his other works do.
