The 13th century Church of Mary the Consoler (PanayĆa ParighorĆtissa) in Arta, Epirus, Greece. It was commissioned by the despot of Epirus, NikephĆ³ros AĀ“ KomnenĆ³s DoĆŗkas, his wife Anna PalaeologĆna and their son ThomĆ”s, as reads an inscription in the main entrance. Arta`s bridge in autumn,Epirus,Greece
Is a stoneĀ bridgeĀ that crosses theĀ Arachthos riverĀ (ĪĻĪ±ĻĪøĪæĻ) in the west of the city ofĀ ArtaĀ (ĪĻĻĪ±) in northwesternĀ Greece. It has been rebuilt many times over the centuries, starting withĀ RomanĀ or perhaps older foundations; the current bridge is probably a 17th-centuryĀ OttomanĀ construction.
TheĀ folkĀ balladĀ "The Bridge of Arta" tells a story ofĀ human sacrificeĀ during its building. From the ballad, a number ofĀ GreekĀ proverbsĀ and customary expressions arose, associated with interminable delays, as in the text of the ballad: "All day they were building it, and in the night it would collapse."
