Our project is essentially almost done! Ethan has been focusing on coding the design of our project. Each time the mouse is pressed, or in this case the Makey-Makey gator clip makes contact with a conductible surface, the more a shape on the screen will grow. I think there is still some progress to be made, but from observing, the current design is pie-chart shape-like and each piece of the pie represents the location of each Makey-Makey gator clip or "wind chime" (I think we will have about 5 depending on our progress and resources). Elliot has been focusing on more of the background sound aspects of the project. In this class he wrote a code that takes a sound and after the mouse is pressed, the sound fades and reverbs away. I have been working on things similar to Elliot. I spent most of class exploring my Kaossilator and trying to figure out ways to create a program that works similarly to the Kaossilator. I figured out how to connect it to my computer so that I can control it through Garageband and live record my creations. Within this mindset, I explored frequency modulation within Processing as well as Fourier Transform, which is an algorithm that transforms a signal in the time domain, such as a sample buffer, into a signal in the frequency domain, called the spectrum (http://code.compartmental.net/tools/minim/manual-fft/). This would allow me for example to break up a song or sound into various frequencies and apply those frequencies to shapes, opacities, or different musical effects. So, depending on the frequency the shape, opacity, or effect of the sound on the screen would be different. Thinking a part from the group project, this applies much to my ideas of sound-responsive graphics.
