I just wanted you to see this 50HS fan art I made. I'm not too happy with how it turned out, but I've already put in too much time to not send it to you.

I think if I’d thought more about the concept, it would make more sense, but basically it’s the moment when the traveler is forced to take a bath and meets Briseis for the first time, and Briseis calms her down.

I’m embarrassed, but it’s just a way to show how much I love your story, and I can’t wait to keep reading 😭

i just love that the two are positioned in a way that they're protecting each other??? the mcs arm is up and shielding briseis' face. on the other hand, briseis is holding her tight against her side absolutely refusing to let go!!! omg pls i need you to talk more about this piece because i am absolutely AMAZED by it THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THIS TO MEEEEE

This deserves to be in a museum. I could literally stare at this artwork for HOURS and i still would have stuff to talk about just the emotions printed on mcs face, on BRISEIS' FACE??? AHHHHHHHHHHH

i wonder who the arm offscreen is??? achilles?? patroclus??? maybe that's why they both look so hostile?? or its another girl trying to help the mc and briseis????

In the past I had an dslr camera on a tripod, lights, etc, art pinned up on my easel, but it just took so long to set up and get it right, I got super frustrated with it, expecially as I don't have a dedicated studio space so I had to pack everything up and down each time. Also, the camera would bounce light off the greylead in my pencil work and pictures would have shiny areas that didn't look clean so it was useless. It was a little bit better for my pastel works and took a good size image, but the fishbowl effect was so hard to fix later so if the picture was larger and I needed to move the tripod back a little, the image would be distorted and need adjustments in photoshop afterwards, it all took so damn long and I got really sick of it.

After trying various techniques and set-ups, I now just use my smartphone. I have learned it's really important to have as little movement as possible so I set the art up on a slight angle on my easel to catch the right amount of light on the paper, I brace my elbows/arms on the table, breathe out completely so my body's not moving even for a breath, and snap off a few quick shots on my phone. I take care to line up the picture with the straight edges on the sides, top and bottom so it's centered as well as possible within the frame and not distorted.

I use an iPhone Xs and the camera is awesome for my pencil drawings, it doesn't capture any of the shine off the pencil and the lines always come up nice and crisp.

I think it's safe to say the modern interpretation of patroclus was based on miller's song of achilles? There's nothing wrong with that, before i actually preferred that version bc i thought it represents the whole different kind of strength since he was a medic in that version, but after reading iliad, where patroclus literally killed a warrior by throwing a stone (apollo literally had to intervene) instantly changed my preference lmao. Which made me realise that he's a far more gifted warrior than modern interpretation gives him credit for. He can be gentle, but he’s also undeniably dangerous. which you perfectly portrayed poly! That duality is why I drew him a little softer, almost easy to underestimate. It’s always those who smiles a lot are dangerous and it always makes me think is achilles the dangerous one here? Ok, I'm literally yapping now, thanks for having me, poly!

yea i could never get into song of achilles purely because of the portrayal of patroclus. i remember reading the description of him having 'knobbly knees' and i was out. i understand why miller made him as a medic but i just couldnt get into that specific portrayal of him.

(do i write patroclus as a lanky anime boy??? yes but im also an idiot so i get a pass)

And yeah Achilles is just wearing a skirt thingy bc im too lazy to draw his armour/chiton and it's not a thirst trap lol. Noticed i added two additional scenes that didn't exist on your fic, with the pink sea shell that thetis gave him back in his childhood when they're shelling back in phtia, and the white flower the traveller gave him that changes everything (i kind of also added his neck scar thingy that the traveller mentioned on chap2?). I just found it fitting that he remembered those and made his hesitation have more meaning, and i went with it. Now that i think about it, i might be overstepping boundaries, which is not the case poly, hope you don't mind! And thanks again for sharing 50hs with us!
