3, 10, 19, and 25 for the writing ask 💛
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
ohhhhhhhh hm. See I run into a lot of things like this but I usually end up finding a way to include them eventually? I suppose the closest at the moment is this one scene from my paused Realm of the Elderlings fic that is just someone from the Six Duchies dropping btw-we-can-talk-like-dragons-in-your-head as a fact on like, Reyn, in the middle of some chaos. I like gobsmacked characters and colliding backstory XD But! I am still hoping to eventually get back to work on that fic; I have a lot more to do with it, and a scene resembling that one will hopefully turn up at some point.
10. How would you describe your writing process?
Except for if I’m desperately nanoing for wordcount (or writing smut lol), I’ve generally acted out the whole scene for myself, probably multiple times, before I get it on the page. Whole drafts live in my head, and writing it down is always much more about how to articulate a story than what’s happening in it. I don’t redraft fanfiction because I don’t find it super enjoyable and I’m doing it for fun; I’d definitely redraft original fiction if I wanted to put it anywhere, because that has a different context. I do edit both, depending on how I feel about it; usually I’ll pick through maybe two or three times, tweaking small things, before I consider it finished.
19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)
I live in hurt/comfort land when I’m coming up with things, haha, but I feel like I don’t actually write a lot of it? I write more gen, I think. I often have little problems where I’ve latched on to a word I like and it turns up like, five times on a page - but the word in question varies.
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
Mmmmmm when you’ve got something JUST right and it CLICKS and you do it in one big sweep. Love that feeling, and I often find it makes good stuff - one of the chapters in the fic I’m posting at the moment was like that, and it was a great experience.
