Arranged date // Mark & Alexsis
It was a rare quiet moment at work when Alexsisā phone rang. She looked at the screen and rolled her eyes when she saw āMomā. She took the phone in her hand and looked at it, but didnāt answer. She replaced it on her desk and continued the reading of another unsolved case. A few minutes later, she received a text, she took the phone back and opened it. [Mom: Pick up!] [AlexsisĀ : Iām in a meeting, I canāt.] she lied, because she was avoiding her mother since weeks. Actually she was avoiding conversations with her mother since December in 2011 when she came back from Boston, crying all the time without giving anyone an explanation. [Mom: Well you can text! Come tonight, your brothers and your nephews are coming. Be there at 7PM.] Her motherās authority could have been funny, but it wasnāt to Alexsis. How could she say no to that without making is sound weird? She couldnāt. [AlexsisĀ : Iām working! Fine Iāll be there, but maybe not at 7PM exactly. See you tonight.] she answered after a long moment of hesitationā¦
Now that she had plans for the evening -even if it was a silly night at her parentsā place- it was impossible for Alexsis to concentrate on her work. She was thinking about so many things. First of all, she canāt go there knowing her nephews are there and not bring them some gifs! But she canāt find real gifs in so little time⦠She quickly decided to buy a lot of cupcakes after work. But that wasnāt it.. What was she going to wear? Her brotherās wife was a very unique person; respectable, but really annoying sometimes. She always compares Alexsisā life to hers, every little detail, she had been like that since the very first day. Alexsis found this habit stupid because their lives are way too different to be compared! But does it mean that Alexsis was going to give her the possibility to make her feel bad about anything? Of course not. Alexsis got up from her desk and took the file she was studying before leaving her office.
It was only 5PM and she was already in her apartment. How? Simple⦠She went to the bossā office and told him everything she discovered about the case she was working on. He listened to her quietly and then said āwhat do you want Evans?ā with his annoying serious voice. Lieutenant was used to Alexsisās habits, he knew her way too well to believe that she was just here to tell him about the case. She never does actually share informations, she keeps them to herself until she was sure about them and of course she was sure to be rewarded for her hard work. She smiled politely and simply answered āIām leaving earlier⦠I hope you donāt mind." She didnāt really ask him, but there she was, off work two hours earlierā¦
She had time to take a bath, to take care of her nails and her hair before finally thinking about her outfit. She choose a blouse with black skinny trousers with a lovely vest.
She left her apartment around 6:30 PM and stopped by the nearest bakery still open; she simply bought two boxes of cupcakes and a pie for her motherā¦
When she arrived, a silly smile appeared on her face; she was always avoiding everything that has anything to do with serious conversations with her parents, but it didnāt mean she wasnāt happy to be near them⦠Of course, Alexsis had a key; Mr Evans wasnāt the kind of man to let her daughter outside in the real world without a key of her real home (as he calls it)⦠She looked for the key and opened the door a few seconds later, the pie in her hand. She could hear her nephews laughing inside as soon as she opened the door, and that made her smile even more. āDaddy, your badass is here!" she shouted, laughing already about this old joke they had. Her nephews came to her, running very fast, she was surprised but amused. "Slow down, little devilsĀ ! There is something for you in the car, go get itĀ !" she said, giving the keys to the older one.
Her parents came to say hello, she kissed and hugged them,Ā giving the pie to her mother. It was weird because her mother didnāt tell her anything like āyouāve lost weight, againā orĀ āyou look tiredā yet. No, she was lovely, and that freaked Alexsis out for a moment.
She followed her parents to the living room and said āHello Evans!" with aĀ gesture of her arm, to the whole little family. āAlexsis⦠Hum⦠You know Claraā¦" her mother began, standing at her left, pointing someone behind her. "Alexsis, let me introduce you Mark"ā¦
Alexsis stopped and looked at her mother, swearing that she hated her at that momentā¦
