aka the Donjon d'Arques. Often called a Cathar Castle, it was built not by Occitan Cathars but a second generation French Catholic Crusader, Gilles de Voisins. Gilles rebuilt the village of Arques as a bastide in 1268 and also started work on the present nearby castle. It was completed in the third generation by Gilles II in 1316.
